POSITION SUMMARYAn employee in this class is responsible for the performance of a wide variety of light and heavy manual labor which does not require a high degree of manipulative skill or previous experience. Work is usually performed under the immediate direction of an employee of higher classification; however, constant supervision is not necessary for familiar tasks which can be carried out without difficulty once they are learned. Performs grounds and facility maintenance duties for a treatment plant, which includes minor repairs of tanks, buildings, cleaning restrooms, trash pick-up, recovery basin sludge removal, etc. Work is subject to close supervision, and employees receive specific work instructions at the beginning of each new job.
This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union 769 and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Performs related tasks in the general maintenance of municipal facilities, including mopping and sweeping floors, cleaning restrooms and other related tasks
- Orders cleaning supplies, paper products, and hand sanitizers, and refilling supplies
- Takes down, moves, and erects benches, seats and chairs, or equipment as needed
- Performs minor repairs incidental to proper maintenance of equipment
- Removes plant's grit, trash, and rags to the landfill for disposal
- Complies with safety regulations and standard operating procedures
- Works around high voltage, rotating equipment and various hazardous chemicals
- May be responsible for cleaning and maintenance of parking lots and grounds maintenance tasks in an assigned area
- May take down, move and erect benches, seats and chair or equipment as needed
- May repair breaks and holes in street surfaces using whatever materials are appropriate
- May do mowing and related activities
- May operate heavy equipment, such as, front loader, VAC truck, etc.
- May operate a jet cleaning truck
- Performs related work as required
