ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Airport Automation Controls Specialist position. This position supports the development, installation, and maintenance of airport automated baggage handling equipment. Further, this position processes and implements continuous improvement activities and resolves equipment performance issues. This specialized technical class repairs and maintains computer-controlled systems and robotic devices used within airport baggage handling systems, reducing human intervention and maximizing efficiency.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation and Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent formal training in Industrial Automation Technology, Electrical/Mechanical or Electronics and four years full-time experience in maintaining and troubleshooting industrial or similar large scale automated equipment.Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Licenses and Certification: Requires possession of a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of hire.
Working Conditions: Work extended and/or weekend shifts and be called back in emergency situations.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers' license laws within 90 days of employment.
Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Background Check: Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration. Customs and Border Protection Security Seal Program: Employment with the Department of Aviation in this job title is contingent upon a ten year employment and five year residency history record check and the ability to present original identity based documentation in order to meet the requirements for a Security Seal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSMobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces or from aerial equipment for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone. EXAMPLES OF DUTIESPerforms routine diagnostic checks on airport automated baggage handling systems, monitors system performance and performs data collections and/or analysis as requested by various stakeholders; isolates problems and perform repairs. Analyzes and troubleshoots performance issues and determines if the problem is mechanical, electrical or from the computer systems controlling the process; assists in the repair or replacement of any necessary sensor or electrical components as required. Identifies areas for improvement, additional documentation and/or operator training; supports testing processes for existing and upcoming technology. Follows change management procedures, and assists with developing and evaluating quality improvement projects. Assists in the documentation of new processes and techniques. Reads and interprets blue prints, schematic diagrams, mechanical layout, drawings, ladder diagrams, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) code, meters, gauges, instruments, reports, charts and graphs; documents all required information. Maintains and services a variety of test equipment and hand and power tools. Accesses inventory of frequently used supplies and hardware; alerts appropriate individual when replacements need to be ordered. Ensures adherence to departmental regulations and safety procedures. Checks job sites for potential hazards; ensures appropriate safety equipment is used. Maintains equipment logs and machine intervention documentation, records and logs of work in progress; prepares reports.
