    The Position

    Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.

    Under general direction, incumbents perform advanced journey level duties and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or serve as a project leader as assigned. Incumbents may function as a unit leader to include directing the activities of a branch IT support unit, overseeing projects of limited scope, and coordinating activities with other work groups. This is a supervisory level for Computer Operations and the journey level for Information Security positions.

    The position will supervise helpdesk staff and provide helpdesk support in the event the either are unavailable. The position will administer Active Directory, conduct Local Area Network (LAN) administration; and monitor, maintain, and configure the agencys virtual environment. The position will be responsible for maintaining the agencys backup systems and IIS web application server software and hardware. Under the supervision of the IT Manager 1, the duties of the IT Professional 3 will include developing, creating, and managing the agencies databases and associated processes. Configure databases; tune performance; back-up and recover data; develop and implement standards and procedures to convert, transfer, and interface data within and between databases; maintain data dictionaries, repositories, and related software; control the authorized sharing of information with multiple users within or outside the organization; exercise administrative control in defining database architecture at an advanced level; provide technical consultation regarding application development; and coordinate system design, applications and software programming, and computer operations activities relative to the database environment.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and three years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security, one year of which was at the journey level; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Some positions require specialized certification that will be identified at the time of recruitment. Some positions require statewide travel. Some positions require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
