    Minimum Qualifications
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Social Work, Public Policy, Public Health, or in a field related to the job. Three (3) years experience in community outreach or neighborhood wide community programs.
    • Masters Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Social Work, Public Policy, Public Health, or in a field related to the job, may substitute for one year related work experience.
    • Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.

    This position reports to the OCL Manager and works as a Neighborhood Liaison team member. Successful candidates will possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively contribute to team projects.

    The role is centered around building strong community relationships through outreach and engagement initiatives. The primary objective is to enhance community well-being by providing access to vital resources, fostering a sense of community, promoting education, providing crime prevention strategies, ensuring law enforcement accessibility, and addressing other needs. The position requires frequent interaction and collaboration with sworn and non-sworn professionals across departments. This role prioritizes collaboration and a shared sense of ownership in addressing challenges, and concerns, actively involving community members and stakeholders in the problem-solving process.

    The role will play a crucial part in organizing and executing several impactful community programs, including:

    * National Night Out: Fostering stronger neighborhood bonds and enhancing community safety through collaborative events.

    * Faith, and Blue: Promoting understanding and respect between law enforcement and the LGBTQ+ community, as well as faith-based organizations.

    * Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.): Building bridges between senior citizens and law enforcement to address concerns and enhance safety for this demographic.

    * Operation Blue Santa: Organizing and coordinating a holiday gift program to bring joy to children in need within the community.

    * Coffee with a Cop: Creating informal and accessible opportunities for community members to engage with law enforcement officers in a relaxed setting.

    This role will require building strong partnerships with diverse community members, including individuals from African American, Asian, Hispanic, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ backgrounds. Collaboration will extend to key stakeholders such as community centers, places of worship, and other influential organizations within the community.

    The Office of Community Liaison is committed to strengthening community ties, fostering trust between residents and law enforcement, and enhancing the overall well-being of the community.

    Chosen applicants must be flexible and willing to travel to multiple work locations. The position requires evening and weekend availability to accommodate event schedules. Currently, this position operates from an office/warehouse setting.

    Travel:
    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


    Meet with neighborhood residents, leaders, and community groups to identify needs and available resources. Coordinate, plan, and develop programs and activities to address resident’s economic, social service, and community improvement needs; and/or improve coordination of existing services. Develop and implement a variety of health and/or safety promotions, outreach, and education efforts. Coordinate volunteer programs, train residents in neighborhood support activities, including grant writing. Support Self-Reliant Neighborhood activities for neighborhood improvement. Assist in the establishment or revitalization of neighborhood associations and neighborhood watch blocks. Represent the City of Austin before community groups. Write, draft, and complete reports and/or documents.

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Austin has a 10-1 council system with an at-large Mayor and Council Members that represent ten districts.
