    Manufacturing Assistance Instructor I

    $60.00/hour

    Wage (Temporary/Casual) Position

    The Manufacturing Assistance Instructor I coordinates, prepares, and delivers Lean and Quality Management Systems (QMS) training, including delivering training in Spanish, throughout the state of Texas. The Manufacturing Assistance Instructor trains technicians, managers and executives in a variety of manufacturing, commercial, and government organizations through courses which focus on strategies and techniques to assist companies and organizations to improve their performance. The Manufacturing Assistance Instructor will use their knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. The Manufacturing Assistance Instructor uses a variety of media to present course materials and is responsible for assisting in curriculum development projects to maintain course relevance and support customer needs. This position reports to the Program Director.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (equivalency: will consider an Associate’s degree with seven years of experience or a High School Diploma/GED with nine years of experience)
    • Five years of experience in engineering or manufacturing
    • One year of experience in adult education and/or training of lean manufacturing tools


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
    • Three or more years of experience implementing/ auditing ISO Quality Management Systems
    • 10 years or more experience as an active Lean Practitioner in a manufacturing environment
    • Certified Lean Practitioner or Lean Leader
    • Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
    • Training within Industry (TWI) Instructor JI, JR, JM, JS, PS
    • OSHA Authorized Instructor
    • Speak, read and write Spanish at a proficient level


    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
    • Ability to regularly use computer/keyboard
    • Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day (standing)
    • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions during construction
    • Physical conditioning consistent with movement of training equipment, wearing personal protective equipment during instruction as needed, designing, developing, and deploying curriculum for classroom and online training delivery up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Excellent facilitation, communication, and presentation skills necessary to interact with business and community leaders
    • Proficient use of the principles and methods for instructing and training individuals and groups of various sizes
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Strong focus on customer service and student success
    • Ability to multitask, work independently, collaborate with a team and work cooperatively with others
    • Ability to present course material using a wide variety of media and technology.
    • Working knowledge of essential office software and instructional programs (Windows and macOS), Office Suites (Microsoft Office, G Suite), presentation software (PowerPoint, Keynote, Zoom)


    Equipment:
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone
    • Training equipment
    • Personal protective equipment as needed


    Notifications:
    • This position is security-sensitive.
    • This position may require 80% or more travel depending on course location.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • This position allows telecommuting per TEEX guidelines.
    • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Promote adaptability, providing instructional and technical assistance support to the manufacturing assistance program - 80%:
    • Determines course goals and objectivesfor BCS course developments
    • Uses a variety of instructional techniques for presenting course material
    • Develops instructional techniques to accommodate different learning styles
    • Initiates and maintains interactive classroom discussions
    • Provides positive reinforcement and motivational incentives
    • Monitors learner performance
    • Evaluates and assesses instructional effectiveness


    Promote teamwork by coordinating and collaborating with other personnel assigned to the program, other programs, divisions, and entities to maintain and further develop the program - 10%:
    • Assists in the curriculum and technical assistance efforts in support of the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Program, as well as other deliveries as assigned
    • Provides status updates to the program director regarding change requests
    • Works with points of contacts from clients and jurisdictions for coordination, development, preparation efforts as needed
    • Assists in marketing courses


    Promote stewardship by performing fiscal and administrative duties in a responsible manner - 10%:
    • Ensures completion and collection of student attendance rosters, registration forms, pre-test/post-tests, course evaluations, and delivery records forms
    • Submits time worked and travel expenses/receipts within the required time frame


    Additional Program/Division responsibilities:
    • Interacts professionally and respectfully with students, staff, and external partners
    • Performs additional work duties as assigned
    • Follows all dress codes associated with work activity (i.e. Travel, workshop, in office, etc.)
    • Maintains and safeguards assigned divisional equipment and property.
    • Maintains a professional appearance
    • Maintains an organized workspace
