    Monday through Friday: 7:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    Evening weekend and holiday work may be required.
    Rotational on-call and call back work is required by the position.

    Preferred Experience:
    • State of Texas Journeymen or Master Electrician Licensure or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
    • Extensive experience troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing of electrical systems in commercial buildings.
    • Experience in the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System( CMMS ) i.e. work order system or software.
    • Experience with the National Electrical Code ( NEC ), City of Austin Building Codes and ordinances.
    • Experience pulling permits and coordinating building inspections.
    • Experience working as a service electrician for a municipality or other government entity.
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.


    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Pull wire, conduit, cable, etc. Connect power cables to equipment i.e. generators, alarm systems, lighting systems, etc. Conduct on-the-job training. Assign duties and monitor task completion. Use various electrician hand tools i.e. snips, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, etc. Operate soldering tools. Read profiles and blueprints. Measure, cut & bend wire & conduit using rulers & hand tools. Install wire, conduit, coaxial cable, etc. Install conductors. Splice electrical wiring i.e. strip insulation, twist wires together, solder, tape, apply terminal caps, etc. Operate various power saws, i.e. radial arm, skill, etc. Operate drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, etc. Operate electronic testing equipment.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    • Knowledge of basic electricity.
    • Knowledge of safety rules and procedures when working with energized electrical equipment.
    • Knowledge of building codes applicable to level of construction.
    • Knowledge of equipment tools and materials used in electrical maintenance and construction.
    • Skill in the use of hand tools common to the electrical trade.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and schematics

    City Government
