About the Position:
The College of Communication is committed to advancing a democratic society by preparing students to perform in a variety of communication professions. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant to the Dean (Administrative Analyst/Specialist-Exempt I). Reporting to the Dean, the Assistant to the Dean offers high-level administrative, strategic, analytical, operational and programmatic support to the College of Communications’ leadership team and staff, including the Dean, the Dean's Office, college-based centers and institutes, the Student Success Center, Titan Communications, and the Departments of Communications (COMM), Human Communication Studies (HCOM), Cinema and Television Arts (CTVA), and Communication Sciences and Disorders (COMD). This role also provides high-level strategic support to various signature programs within these units, which are funded by both internal and external sources. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving the study, analysis, evaluation, development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices or programs plus two years of related experience.
Working knowledge of and the ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the program or administrative specialty to develop conclusions and make recommendations. Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the applicable program or administrative specialty. Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques. Ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. Skilled in research, development, and evaluation of policies and programs. Ability to collect, evaluate, and interpret data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Expertise investigating and analyzing problems with broad administrative impact and implications. Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively. Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form. Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of progressively responsible experience at Cal State Fullerton (CSUF), with a background in the Division of Academic Affairs. Successful experience as an Administrative Support Coordinator and/or Administrative Analyst at CSUF in multiple academic units. Experience working in the College of Communications. Extensive experience in evaluating, developing, or enhancing CSUF policies, procedures, or programs. Demonstrated experience leading an office that values belonging, mutual respect, attention to detail, and exceptional customer service. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across units and divisions. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with a customer-service orientation. Demonstrated effectiveness in working with administrators, faculty, staff, and students with a high degree of integrity. Experience in planning and coordinating events and meetings. Experience in coordinating communications and engagement with external partners, including alumni, donors, and academic and professional community members. Experience coordinating and/or managing budgets, travel, procurement, facilities, and scheduling. Experience working with student programs, including those funded by Instructional Related Activities (IRA) funds. Experience mentoring staff and student assistants.
License/Certifications
A valid California driver's license.
