Position DescriptionEmployees in this classification perform responsible professional nursing care at a unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Responsible for the care and treatment of patients in accordance with accepted nursing and medical standards administrative nursing personnel. Supervises other subordinate clinic personnel. Work is performed under correctional clinic conditions; position requires a high degree of contact with patients, other clinic personnel and outside professionals.
Major/Essential FunctionsThis position will function in a way that will help alleviate many of the tasks that come with an admission and a discharge with a patient from the Ward. This will allow the nurses to continue with tasks deemed as necessary to provide an elevated level of care for our patients.
Upon the admission to the Ward this nurse will be responsible for the following:
- All admission assessments
- Inpatient RN assessment
- Inpatient Nursing Admission Assessment (I-III)
- Inpatient Nursing Admission Assessment (IV-VI)
- NPOC development
- Admission reminders accuracy
- Verify Encounter type, Admission type and Patient Mode
- Verify Admission date(s)
- Verify Admission orders are in computer
- Make sure admissions for procedures have accurate orders by completing Standing Delegated Orders(NPO, labs, etc)
- Communicates with patients nurse efficiently on any findings during assessment
- Complete transfer note wizard document(s)
- Completes PTM functions
Upon patient discharge from the Ward this nurse will be responsible for the following:
- Modifying encounter type, Admission type and Patient Mode according to discharge destination
- Close/Clear reminders for RMF Admission
- Close NPOC(s)
- Communicate with Nurse on discharges and any information necessary regarding discharge
- RN assessments
- IV medications mixture
- Administer IV medications for those with PICC lines or Omega ports
- Dressing changes for Omega ports, PICC lines

In addition to the base position compensation, we offer shift differential pay for night and weekend shifts:
Registered Nurse Shift Differential:
- Day Shift Employees: Earn an extra $4.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
- Night Shift Employees:
- Earn an extra $4.00 per hour for shifts worked Monday through Friday.
- Earn an extra $8.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
Required QualificationsLicense/Certification: Current RN License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of nursing within 120 days of applying for a position. Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX- RN) on the first attempt.
Experience: No experience required.
