    Role

    Preference: Speech Language Pathologists with a certificate of clinical competency.

    Responsible for the prevention, identification, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of children/students ages three through twenty-two years of age exhibiting communication disorders.

    Major Duties, Responsibilities

    • Facilitate assessments of students with significant educationally relevant communication disorders through interview and initial evaluation to determine the presence and severity of a communication disorder.
    • Attend all meetings involving students (which may include review of existing data meeting, eligibility determination meeting, dismissal from program, move-ins, change of placement, IEP, addendum, etc).
    • Provide required information to include reason for referral, evaluation results, diagnosis and recommendations, present level of educational performance, speech/language goals, and all documentation required by local, state, and federal agencies.
    • Conduct re-evaluations every three-years to determine if continued services or dismissal are appropriate.
    • Provide direct or indirect services by method of one-on-one, small group, or inclusion within the classroom by integrating speech/language goals with curriculum-based objectives and ethically and legally implement the IEP.
    • Document therapy sessions to accurately determine progress/regression with current goals and/or consult with other staff, if indirect therapy, to assure appropriate progress and accurate goals.
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:
    Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.

    Experience:
    A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Speech Language Pathology in school-based (PreK - 12).

    Additional Requirements:
    Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
    Must hold a Speech Language Pathologist Certification issued by the Arizona Department of Education.
    Must be licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:
    • Scope of practice in accordance with ASHA, state, and federal requirements.

    Skill in:
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by other electronic means with public and employees.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
    • Organizing and adhering to detail.

    Ability to:
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
    • Adhere to ASHA Code of Ethics, Educational Service Agency and State Guidelines regarding confidentiality, conduct, and requirements.
    • Complete all assessments within the mandated IDEA timelines.
    • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
    • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
    • Adhere to FERPA requirements.
    • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

    Work Environment:
    The work environment is associated with an office and/or classroom setting. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated.

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effectively in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
