    Minimum Qualifications
    This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:

    Environmental Scientist Technician
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Data Science, Natural Sciences or related field OR
    • Graduation with an Associate’s degree from an accredited community college with major course work in above mentioned fields and two (2) years of relevant experience.
    • One (1) year of experience may substitute for one (1) year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four (4) years.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License.

    Environmental Scientist:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Life Science, Natural Science or related field plus four years of relevant experience
    • One additional year of experience may substitute for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years.
    • Master’s Degree may substitute for two years of the required experience.

    POSITION OVERVIEW :
    The Applied Watershed Science section ( AWS ) integrates watershed science into the department’s policies, practices, programs, and projects. Environmental scientists in this group work on a diverse set of watershed studies, including hydrologic characterization, groundwater, stormwater, and baseflow water quality monitoring, as well as aquatic and riparian ecosystem studies. They also assess and develop best practices for stormwater treatment of urban runoff.

    This position will primarily assist in the field collection of water quality samples and creek discharge data, in addition to supporting project teams in the installation, maintenance, calibration and operation of surface water monitoring equipment, and aid in the record management of environmental data including geospatial data in Geographic Information System ( GIS ) databases. This position will include a large component of field work within the Austin-area creeks.

    SALARY :
    This position is posted at multiple levels and will be filled based on qualifications.

    Environmental Scientist-
    $29.23 - $36.54

    TRAVEL :

    Hours
    8 :00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    Monday - Friday with the ability for a 60% telework schedule per week after initial training period. Exceptions may apply subject to the business needs of the department.

    City Government
