    ***PART-TIME JOB OPPORTUNITY***

    CAMP COUNSELOR
    CAMP CONCORD (SEASONAL)


    The City of Concord's Recreation Services Department is seeking people to work for the City's Camp Concord Program. Salary is negotiable based on experience:
    • Camp Counselor I: $64.22 - $70.89 a day plus room and board, with minimum 1 year experience
    • Camp Counselor II: $74.47 - $84.26 a day plus room and board, with minimum 2 years experience
    Camp Concord:
    It took at least 40 civic groups, private businesses, schools and individuals to establish our Camp. Camp Concord is nestled high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, between the majestic shores of South Lake Tahoe and the calming beauty of Fallen Leaf Lake. Camp Concord is dedicated to the philosophy that its buildings, programs and participants will be compatible with the surrounding environment. Camp will ensure that all elements of Camp Concord remain in harmony with the environment by maintaining a minimal impact and working toward a waste free environment.

    Camp Concord has a variety of programming and activities including family camps, youth camps, mother and son camps, adults over 50 camps, and labor day camps. For more information visit www.cityofconcord.org/campconcord.
    The 2025 Season runs from June 2- August 3, 2025. Off season work is available from August 4 - October 1, 2025 for select positions.

    What you will be doing:
    Under supervision, Camp Counselors assist with a variety of camp program activities, including hospitality and customer service, food service, the camp office, and camp activities and programming. Activities may include local excursions, swimming, barbecues, arts and crafts, cooking projects, and contests, as deemed suitable for the age of the participants. At Camp Concord you can expect to work hard and make friendships that will last a lifetime!

    All positions are part time, limited service, and m ust be able to work 5-6 days a week, early morning, evening and weekend shifts when required, and attend weekly in-service trainings.

    We are looking for someone who:
    • Can work the entire season
    • Can live on site at Camp Concord in South Lake Tahoe
    • Can participate in a mandatory, paid staff orientation training on June 2, 2025
    • Is an excellent role model and mentor for youth
    • Is a team player
    • Exhibits excellent communication and customer service skills

    SELECTION PROCESS

Conviction History:
    If you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with the City of Concord.

    Examples of duties include, but are not limited to

    • Learn and implement camp hospitality plan and serving as a role model of camp hospitality standards.
    • Prepare arrival information, conduct camp tours and assist families with settling into cabins.
    • Learn about camp programs and procedures and deliver this information to families in a positive and educational manner.
    • Ensure cleaning, housekeeping and camp maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner and meet quality controls set by management.
    • Assist Facility Specialists with exterior maintenance of facilities and other light maintenance of camp including cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining restrooms, dining hall, and cabins.
    • Provide support at camp program activities like campfires, family game night, luau at the beach, evening kids hours, and more.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    In addition to the above, Camp Counselor Is and IIs will also:
    • Supervise campers during all activities that a parent or guardian is not present.
    • Ensure campers and staff are following safety procedures in all program areas at all times.
    • Assist families with issues, problems, and inconveniences that arise
    In addition to the above, Camp Counselor IIs will also:
    • Serve as a program lead for a specific area of camp (Arts & Crafts, Archery, Aquatics, Sports and Games, Evening Programs).
    • Responsible for setup and break down of all program activities
    • Assist Program Coordinators with activity planning and implementation
    • Assist Office Coordinator with camp office tasks, including answering phones, computer work, and camp store operations.
    • Run the Camp store when the Office Coordinator is not present, including processing all purchases and restocking merchandise.


    Qualifications

    Knowledge of:
    • Operations of public recreation programs.
    • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
    • How to play games, sports, arts & crafts and other recreational activities.
    • Basic record keeping principles and procedures.

    Ability to:
    • Positively motivate kids, teens, and adults, creating a safe and enjoyable experience for campers.
    • Follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Account for money and making change
    • Interpret and explain City policies and procedures.
    • Monitoring operations and notifying supervisor of safety and discipline issues.
    • Dealing tactfully and courteously with the public.
    • Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
    • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with employees and the general public.
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.


    COUNSELOR I

    Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Experience: Some experience working with children or youth of various ages is required. Experience may include work as a camp counselor, babysitter, tutor, church or youth group volunteer, or similar type position.

    Certifications: Must successfully complete American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR/AED and Food Handling training at time of hire, if not already certified.

    COUNSELOR II

    Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Experience: Some experience working or attending a camp or similar recreation program is required. Customer service experience and/or experience working with different age groups of children, teens, and adults is required.

    Certifications: Must successfully complete American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR/AED training, Food Handling training, and Lifeguard training at time of hire, if not already certified.

    Other

    A valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment for select positions. Must successfully clear TB testing and fingerprint check.
