    The Department is the only local free standing Consumer Protection agency in the State and our resources and areas of assistance have significantly expanded since its establishment in 1975. We strive to improve the lives of all consumers, tenants, homeowners, immigrants, and workers. Today, we provide a diverse range of services to the residents of Los Angeles County, including investigating and assisting with consumer complaints, real estate fraud, identity theft, and elder financial abuse. DCBA strives to keep people housed and to mitigate displacements through our rent stabilization, tenant protections programs and our foreclosure prevention services. DCBA works to expand access to justice and ensure that residents understand their rights, protect those rights, and obtain a fair outcome through our consumer protection programs, including Small Claims Advisor, dispute resolution and mediation programs, immigration legal services, eviction prevention program, and through our Self- Help Legal Access Centers. DCBA also oversees the County’s cannabis regulatory framework and is committed to ensuring an equitable, sustainable, and safe marketplace. Additionally, we drive initiatives that protect workers from exploitation and human trafficking and provide access to services for vulnerable communities including low to moderate income families, foster youth, and immigrant communities.     The Opportunity:

    We are seeking qualified candidates to fill a Community Center Specialist II vacancy in the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs' Consumer Assistance Division's Altadena Community Center.

    Altadena Community Center
    The Altadena Community Center (ACC), operated by the Los Angeles County DCBA, strives to improve the quality of life of County residents by connecting them with services and programs to assist with needs such as consumer counseling, healthcare, legal aid, education, and any other needs of the community.

    In response to the Los Angeles wildfires, the ACC, is offering a plethora of services to assist affected residents and businesses. These include consumer protection efforts including monitoring price gouging and educating the public about potential disaster scams. For businesses, the ACC provides disaster recovery support, including assistance with financing, navigating insurance claims, and rebuilding efforts. The ACC also offers tenant rights guidance for displaced residents, helping protect them from eviction and rent increases. Additionally, the ACC assists with accessing emergency loans, managing debts, and connecting individuals and businesses with other local, state, and federal relief resources.

    Essential Job Functions

    Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    Altadena Community Center (ACC) Program Coordination
    • Assists the CCD I with the conception of plans and procedures geared towards increasing access to social services available to underserved communities within the Altadena community.
    • Support the coordination and implementation of the ACC programs and services, including scheduling, logistics, and communication with program participants and Community Partners and other stakeholders.
    • Assist in monitoring and evaluating program progress, ensuring objectives are met, and helping resolve any program-related issues.
    • Collaborate with program staff and community partners to assess program needs and outcomes.
    • Conducts intake and assessment to determine and develop a plan to meet the needs of the community, identify available resources and referrals to a variety of educational and training programs.

    Administrative Support
    • Assist the Director with budget tracking, preparing financial reports, and processing invoices or purchase orders related to community center programs and activities.
    • Help with the allocation of resources and funding for various programs, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints.
    • Assists with identifying grants and other revenue sources for funding availability and opportunities that can support the service goals and needs of the Altadena Community Center.
    • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and correspondence related to the operations of the community center.

    Community Engagement and Outreach
    • Support the Director in building and maintaining positive relationships with community stakeholders, partners, and local organizations.
    • Attend community meetings and events on behalf of the center as needed.
    • Collaborates with communications and outreach subject matter experts to assist in the development and implementation of a targeted marketing plan for the community center.
    • Assists with organizing and coordinating community events by collaborating with local agencies and partners to promote available resources; Prepares promotional materials (e.g. flyers, brochures, etc.) for dissemination to the public.
    • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars to learn new and improved resources available to benefit the population served.

    Facility Management
    • Assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the ACC, including facility bookings, room setup, and ensuring that the space is maintained and prepared for activities.
    • Assists with planning and developing a calendar of activities and line-item budgets specific for the needs of the Altadena community.
    • Assists in the reporting and tracking of facilities issues to ISD and Department facilities personnel.

    Supervision and Staff Support
    • Provide guidance and support to part-time staff, volunteers, or interns working at the community center.
    • Helps in the training and orientation of new staff members and volunteers.
    • Coordinates the activities of lower-level staff and provides technical assistance.


    Requirements

    This transfer opportunity is restricted to county employees that currently hold the payroll title of Community Center Specialist II and have passed their initial probationary period.
