OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE AND WITHHOLD WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE MUST BE FULLY MET BY THE LAST DAY OF FILING. Essential Job FunctionsA Grounds Maintenance Worker II is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions:
- Leads and participates in the work of a crew performing grounds and greens maintenance activities such as planting, cultivating, mowing, edging, weeding, spraying, fertilizing, and renovating park and public building lawns, and bowling greens.
- Operates sprinkler systems including cleaning, adjusting and replacing sprinkler heads.
- Oversees and performs custodial work such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors, washing windows, emptying waste baskets and cleaning restrooms and other facilities at parks, and beaches.
- Independently prepares, mixes, and applies non-restricted pesticides.
- Applies restricted chemicals under supervision of a licensed applicator.
- Maintains tools, equipment, and work records.
- Orders materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Prepares written reports and maintains records.
- Set up and dismantle tables and chairs at various public facilities.
- Leads court referral, general relief or other temporary workers assigned to grounds maintenance and custodial tasks.
- Drives automobile equipment to and from work sites as needed.
RequirementsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:One year's (2,088 hours) of experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, or nursery work at a *publicly used facility.
LICENSE:A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions may be required.
PHYSICAL CLASS:Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION: *Publicly used facility is defined as county trails, parks, arboretums, outdoors theaters, and stadiums.
Additional Information Examination content: This exam will consist of an evaluation of your experience based on the information you provide in your employment application. The evaluation is weighted
100% of your final score and will assess the following:
- Experience working in facility and/or grounds maintenance
You must meet the requirements, be willing and able to perform job-related tasks, and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation. Notice of Non-Acceptance and Final Result letters will be sent electronically to your e-mail address. Scores cannot be given over the telephone.
