    The Position

    Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action; OR incumbents serve as the technical scientific expert for a bureau within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

    This Environmental Scientist 4 position will supervise staff and manage all aspects of the Stormwater Branch in the Bureau of Water Pollution Control for the Las Vegas office. This position will also provide secondary supervision to two other staff in the Las Vegas office. The primary duties will be to function as a first-line supervisor that trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned staff that will include engineers, environmental scientists and administrative support; assign and review work including writing NPDES individual and general permits and inspection scheduling; verify compliance with regulations and permits and initiate enforcement, as appropriate; and prepare technical guidance documents to assist the regulated community and regulation revisions. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and four years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and six years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
