This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, and will be based out of
Knob Noster State Park, 873 SE 10 Road, Knob Noster, MO 65336 . Primary work duties will be on the
west section of Katy Trail State Park, which goes from
Clinton to west of the Pilot Grove trailhead, and the
west section of the Rock Island Trail . This position typically works Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break. A once per week start time of 6 a.m. is required to meet with Katy Trail Maintenance Workers. During the on-season, April through October, this position will be required to work one weekend per month, which includes Saturday and Sunday. Shifts may vary occasionally with the time of year and to meet the needs of the facility.
- Assist in directing overall operation and maintenance of the 61-mile west section of Katy Trail State Park and 47.5 miles of the west section of the Rock Island Trail; as well as Knob Noster State Park. This includes administrative and supervisory oversight of daily operations, trails, day use areas, park office, budgeting, directing maintenance priorities, meeting operational standards, staff work schedules, monthly reporting, and direct supervision.
- Supervise permanent, seasonal, temporary, and volunteer employees at Katy Trail State Park in the protection, maintenance, operation, and repair of state parks/historic sites, natural and cultural resources, facilities, equipment, and systems. Skill in managing and collaborating with staff.
- Must be able to exercise a high degree of initiative and independent judgement in planning and implementing the work.
- Greets the public and discusses the facility’s resources, rules, and regulations relating to the state park and state historic site system.
- Develop, schedule, and participate in special events, interpretive programs, and informational public meetings.
- Establish a functional, proactive, working relationship with the media, local governments, local constituency groups and other stake holders.
- Research, collect, organizes, draft data for fiscal, statistical, and operational reports.
- Assists in implementing state park or historic site development projects, which include expansions, new construction, renovations, and maintenance.
- Assist with the Reservation, Sales and Revenue System regarding financial and customer service responsibilities for Knob Noster, Katy Trail, and Rock Island Trail.
- Assist in resource stewardship activities.
- Respond to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries, disturbances, natural disasters, and any other significant events within the park.
- Position must be available to work on weekends, holidays, and evenings, in order to respond to incidents and to visitors’ needs at the park (which is open year-round).
- Act in the absence of the Park Superintendent and independently make sound decisions and direct staff as needed.
- This position may be required to obtain and maintain a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). If required, and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given six months to obtain necessary license/certification.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can include: Park Management, Parks and Recreation, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Botany, Biology, Natural Sciences, Business of Public Administration or related field
- AND four or more years of management, supervision and participation in interpretation, preservation, protection, maintenance and enhancement of state parks and historic sites.

Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant. Other Preferred Qualifications and Experience/Special Job Requirements:
- Must be able to work at least one weekend per month (Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun) during the “On-Season” which is April 16 - October 31.
- Skill in reviewing, analyzing, interpreting, and/or preparing federal or state laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to assigned program
- Must be able to work well with little direct supervision.
- Must be able to work with outside agencies and landowners regarding issues related to State Parks.
- Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.
- Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, evenings, and split shifts as needed.
- Available to participate in special events, meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays.
- Ability to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions with the ability to lift 25 pounds.
