What does the Watershed Protection Department do?
POSITION OVERVIEW :
The Watershed Protection Department protects lives, property, and the environment of our community by reducing the impact of flooding, erosion, and water pollution. The Geospatial Analysis IT Supervisor position supports the mission of the department by supervising the Geospatial Analysis Section in the Strategy and Planning Office. This position is responsible for performing and presenting complex geospatial data analyses to support alignment between department operations and strategic initiatives.
The Geospatial Analysis section helps internal and external customers address spatial data questions related to strategic planning, performance management, and decision support systems. Services of the section include: research, data exploration, interactive data analysis, visualization (maps and dashboards), and presentation of analyses to department leadership, including the Chief Strategy Officer, Equity & Inclusion Program Manager, and Executive Team.
The Geospatial Analysis IT Supervisor is responsible for overseeing a team of employees who perform complex geospatial data analyses, data publication and visualization, and management of enterprise datasets. The position leads staff in the conceptualization, modeling, analysis, and presentation of geospatial analyses to assist in problem solving and decision-making for the entire department. This position will also lead and oversee data classification and data-mining activities to enable more accurate analyses.
An ideal candidate is collaborative, enjoys problem solving, and has a thorough understanding of how to improve operations, streamline work flows, and deliver quality customer service. This position requires an ability to manage competing demands and deadlines and understands how to build and maintain relationships. This position will be responsible for guiding and training staff on processes and procedures and encouraging staff development.
The top candidate should have a thorough understanding of how data-driven decision-making can enable the equitable delivery of services to the Austin community. An essential component of the role involves coordinating with other City departments, project teams, and agencies.
Skillsets required include: understanding of ArcGIS, FME , or other programs that create, edit, analyze, and visualize data; critical thinking and analytical abilities; the ability to lead and collaborate with multiple stakeholders on complex projects; the ability to research, analyze, and interpret findings; the ability to prepare and present findings to appropriate audiences with compelling narratives and visualizations.

Pay Range
$37.63 - $47.98
Hours
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Monday - Friday with the ability for a 60% telework schedule per week after initial training period. Exceptions may apply subject to the business needs of the department.
May require working outside of normal business hours, including emergency events, evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by business needs.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
