    DEPARTMENT OF PARKS & RECREATION

    SALARY INFORMATION:

    Monthly: $5,425.82 - $7,311.46

    Annually: $65,109.84 - $87,737.52

    Essential Job Functions

    • Plans, assigns, directs, and evaluates the work of personnel engaged in the programming, maintenance, and security operations at a regional park.
    • Provides and coordinates programs involving nature, camping, specialized art or historical collections, animal collections and equestrian and other park activities.
    • Regularly inspects the facility to assure optimum maintenance and use of buildings, grounds, hiking and equestrian trails and water areas and reports deficiencies to appropriate agency.
    • Maintains working relationships with other County departments or governmental agencies, support groups and other organizations which provide services to, or have a special interest in the facility.
    • Processes and may approve special event permits, coordinates pre-event preparation of the area to be utilized and assures cleaning of the area after the event.
    • Monitors concessionaires to ensure compliance with negotiated terms of contracts; reports violations to appropriate departmental agency.
    • Prepares and maintains records, reports, budgets and fee collection systems.
    • Recruits and trains volunteers to assist with programs, tours, care and feeding of live exhibited animals.
    • Supervises the acquisition, care and feeding of live animal exhibits.
    • Participates in the planning of future development or additions to the park including coordinating with the park agencies, private contractors, or others involved with planning and developing the facility.


    Requirements

    SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS:

    OPTION I: Two years of experience in the development and implementation of nature related programs;

    -- OR --

    OPTION II: Two years of experience supervising* the maintenance operation of a nature center or natural areas environment in a governmental agency.

    * Supervising is defined as exercising the full range of supervisory duties, such as planning, scheduling, reviewing, and evaluating the work of staff, including the training, hiring and termination of such staff, and completion of written performance evaluations.

    LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS: III - Moderate.
    This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    Certification

    Employees appointed to this class will be required to obtain the Penal Code 832 law enforcement certification and Fish and Game Warden certification within one year of appointment.
    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION: Credit will be given to applicants who possess the following:
    • Additional experience beyond the Specialty Requirements.

    EXAMINATION CONTENT:

    This assessment type will evaluate the training and experience you list on a questionnaire and assign a score based on a standardized scoring system. This part of the assessment is worth 100% of your total score.

    The passing score for the assessment is 70%.

    ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:

    Candidates who passed the assessment are placed on a register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months. We will use this register to fill vacancies as they occur.
    The eligible register resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies in the Department of Parks and Recreation.
