Position DescriptionManages and directs the day to day operations of a research center/institute or medium sized department. Plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of the center/institute/department. Develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities.
Major/Essential FunctionsThis position provides a unique and exciting opportunity to serve in a key administrative and financial role in TTUHSC Business Affairs which includes the following departments: Accounting Services, Application Development, Contracting, Finance Systems Management, General Services, Payment Services, Purchasing, and Student Business Services.
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Business Affairs, the successful candidate must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, problem solving skills, and the ability to organize and analyze data. Significant duties of this position will include solving complex business problems, improving services, managing and monitoring financial activities, measuring and reporting financial risks. The position will provide the opportunity to leverage data and reporting tools to present financial data in a manner that enhances the ability to make informed decisions, identify trends, provide transparency, and improve business performance.
The position requires working closely, collaboratively, and communicating often with high-performing teams and departmental leadership to achieve successful completion of both short-term and long-term projects that improve business operations and maintain strong financial stability and sustainability.
Functions of the position include:
- Works proactively with and under the direction of the AVP of Business Affairs and management teams across the institution to solve complex business problems and determine how best to provide services to Business Affairs' customers
- Actively participates and provides input and assistance with the strategic development and operation of Business Affairs
- Leads budget prep meetings and develops annual operating budgets with input from departmental leadership within Business Affairs
- Documents and updates business processes and procedures to align with Business Affairs operations
- Provides full support to the AVP of Business Affairs with management and monitoring of financial activities and financial position of the institution
- Serves as a subject matter expert in strategic financial analysis including identifying, measuring and reporting of financial risks at the institutional level
- Provides significant guidance, support, and oversight in the development and maintenance of dashboard data to analyze and determine trends, gaps, and successes
- Establishes goals, objectives and standards related to recurring data analyses and reporting tasks
- Working knowledge and utilization of finance systems to interpret data in order to provide analytical support, guidance, and recommendations for decision making
- Works proactively with and under the direction of the AVP of Business Affairs and Business Affairs' departments providing significant managerial level support and guidance with various accounting and finance systems implementations
- Assists other departments with financial related matters to ensure accuracy of financial information and promote financial literacy
- Participates in training and professional development related to accounting, business operations, finance, and leadership
- Builds cross-functional relationships with internal customers across the institution
- Recommends, develops and implements process improvements
- Utilizes proactive, clear and professional communication
- Performs other duties and completes other projects as assigned
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree required, master's preferred; Six years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education beyond Bachelor's may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
