    The Position

    Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment, or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health, or property. This position is located within the Materials Division m Carson City. This position is responsible for performing geotechnical analyses and providing design/construction recommendations tor foundations supporting all types of transportation facilities, including bridges. buildings, and retaining walls; conducting field explorations and inspections; conducting seismic surveys; performing stability analyses for rock and soil cut slopes, rock falls, and landslides; providing design/construction recommendations for revetments, subsurface trench drains. and roadway subgrade support; performing stability and settlement analyses for embankments. This position prepares geotechnical reports and design memoranda; reviews construction project plans, specifications, and cost estimates; manages outside consultants' geotechnical work; attends meetings; conducts construction inspections; provides technical assistance during construction projects; and provides support in disputing contractors' claims.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) Special Notes A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of employment. Special Requirements A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
