    Court Reporter

    We are recruiting to fill a Court Reporter within the Missouri Judicial branch. Persons serving as official court reporter shall be an officer of the court and shall hold office at the pleasure of the judge who appoints the reporter.

    Key responsibilities include (The following duties are those typically performed in this position. Although these examples are descriptive, they are not all-inclusive and are subject to change at any time and may vary at the discretion of the judge):

    • Attending all sessions of court under the direction of the Presiding Judge appointing the reporter and such other sessions of court to which the reporter is assigned.

    • Making a verbatim record of the oral evidence offered in causes tried under the direction of the Presiding Judge and in such other sessions of court to which the reporter is assigned, together with all objections to the admissibility of testimony, the rulings of the court thereon, and all exceptions taken to such rulings.

    • Preserving the notes, either printed or electronic, as utilized in the reporter’s method of court reporting, for future use or reference and furnishing to any person a transcript of all or any part of said evidence or oral proceedings upon payment to the reporter of the fee provided by law.

    • Be responsible for transcribing the notes from proceedings upon receiving a request to furnish a transcript thereof.

    Desired skills and knowledge:

    • Advanced skill in the operation of reporting equipment and general office equipment.

    • Advanced ability to work independently with minimal supervision, maintain accurate records, and work under pressure.

    • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and maintain confidential information.

    • Ability to professionally represent the Court and adhere to professional ethics.

    Minimum qualifications (the following statements represents the minimum education and experience that will be used to determine qualifications of applicants, provided equivalent substitution will be permitted in case of deficiencies of either experience or education. Education above the minimum stated may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience; experience above the minimum stated may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education):

    • Must be a Certified Court Reporter (CCR) as provided under Missouri Supreme Court Rule 14

    • Two years of experience as an official court reporter or freelance reporter is preferred but not required.
