Public Health Nurse in the Tuberculosis Clinic!
Wake County Health and Human Services is seeking a dedicated and skilled Public Health Nurse to focus on tuberculosis (TB) control and prevention. The ideal candidate will possess strong assessment skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent communication skills to engage with individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ways a TB Nurse will make an impact are...- Conduct thorough assessments of clients presenting with signs and symptoms of tuberculosis
- Administer various TB tests, including skin tests and blood tests, in accordance with local health regulations
- Provide education to clients about tuberculosis control measures, including medication adherence and infection prevention strategies
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor clients for potential side effects
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of disease findings, lab results, and treatments in the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System
- Ensure compliance with health policies, legal statues, and ethical standards of nursing practice
- Participate in emergency response activities, including staffing emergency shelters and mass vaccination clinics as needed to control communicable disease outbreaks
- Collaborate effectively with public health teams, community organizations, and healthcare providers to promote tuberculosis awareness and control initiatives

The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing
- No specific experience required
- RN - Registered Nurse - North Carolina Board of Nursing or Compact state
- BPT - Bloodborne Pathogens Training
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation
- AED - Automated External Defibrillator
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Registered Nurse with Home Health experience
- Certification in the NC Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NCEDSS)
- Able to work in electronic health records
- Prior knowledge or experience in a TB clinic
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive, productive relationships with staff as well as patients
- Ability to exercise good judgement and to recognize when matters must be brought to the attention of the TB Supervisor and TB Physician
- Ability to maintain composure during high stress levels and a positive attitude
- Team Player
How Will We Know You're 'The One'? - Working knowledge of TB symptoms, medications and prevention
- Working knowledge of home health and infection control as well as Public Health Law
- Experience in the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System, (NCEDSS), electronic health records, excellent documentation skills and communication skills with populations that do not speak English
- Ability to draw blood work and give TB skin tests following infection control procedures
