    Minimum Qualifications
    This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:


    Engineer A
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.


    Engineer B
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years of experience in engineering acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.


    Engineer C
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

    POSITION OVERVIEW :
    The Watershed Protection Department is seeking a licensed engineer to work in the Stream Restoration Program of the Project Delivery and Design ( PDD ) Branch. Members of this team value their role as civil servants, high-quality engineers, and environmental stewards of Austin’s creeks.

    The successful candidate will be responsible as the engineer-of-record for project development, design, and construction oversight of small erosion and drainage projects built by City crews. Additionally, this position will provide sponsorship of large-scale, capital stream restoration and drainage projects.

    Members of this team also conduct erosion investigations along and in streams and prepare reports on their findings. This team’s work frequently involves communication with residents, project coordination, and collaboration across WPD teams and other departments. Other tasks for members of this team include reviewing erosion hazards affecting development or public infrastructure.

    The ideal candidate will be able to serve as a senior engineer on the team and provide mentoring and guidance to others. Experience with construction in streams, creeks, and rivers and understanding of the fundamentals of fluvial geomorphology, sediment transport, stream stability are highly desired.

    Applicants should have experience designing and/or evaluating drainage infrastructure, creek erosion mitigation, or flood control projects. Experience using GIS , CAD , Hydrology & Hydraulics models, or MSE Wall Design software is a plus. Other experience of interest includes project management, equity, proficiency outdoors (e.g., comfortable trekking urban and vegetated creeks), collaboration with teams of diverse backgrounds, public engagement, aquatic/riparian ecology, and sustainability.

    SALARY RANGES :
    Engineer A: $39.49 to $51.34 per hour
    Engineer B: $42.26 to $54.94 per hour
    Engineer C: $45.22 to $58.78 per hour

    PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION / LICENSE :
    Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. License within six (6) months of employment.

    EDUCATION :
    Verification of education will be conducted on the top candidate.
    TRAVEL :
    If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    Hours
    8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    Monday - Friday with the ability for a 60% telework schedule per week after initial training period. Exceptions may apply subject to the business needs of the department.

    May require working outside of normal business hours, including emergency events, evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by business needs.

    City Government
