POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor
DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Information Systems and Business Analytics Department includes rapidly growing undergraduate programs in Information Systems and Business Analytics, a Minor and concentration in AI Management, and an MS in Business Analytics Programs. Additional graduate programs are under development. The department has strong ties to the technology community, and is highly entrepreneurial in curriculum development.
POSITION DETAILS: The College of Business invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Management Information Systems in the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics, in Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a closely related field starting Fall 2025.
As a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and awardee of the Seal of Excelencia certification, Sacramento State is hiring a cohort of faculty who will support our commitment to Latinx/e student success during the 2024-25 tenure-track hiring cycle. We are looking for teacher/scholars who have an established commitment to teaching, research, and/or service in and with the Latinx/e community. Successful candidates will have demonstrated two or more of the four Latinx/e Student Success Cohort Hire criteria (see Required Qualifications below).

JOB DUTIES: - Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Data Science, Business Analytics, and Management Information Systems (MIS), with an emphasis on AI.
- Develop new courses and enhance existing curriculum.
- Conduct and publish peer-reviewed research in AI and its intersection with MIS, Business Analytics, and emerging technologies.
- Engage in scholarly activities with an emphasis on publications on AI related areas in peer- reviewed journals.
- Engage in collaboration with peers within the college and across the university.
- Provide student advising and mentorship, including supervision of AI-related research projects done by graduate and undergraduate students.
- Foster industry partnerships and engage in experiential learning opportunities such as AI consulting projects, hackathons, and case competitions.
- Contribute to departmental-, college-level service activities, including curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation efforts.
- Actively engage in institutional and community service.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a closely related field from a business program accredited by AACSB International, AMBA, EQUIS, or an equivalent accreditation body.
- Applicants in the dissertation stage (ABD) of doctoral study will be considered; however, all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by June 1, 2025, to remain eligible for employment.
Latinx/e Student Success Cohort criteria (demonstrate two or more of the following):
- Excellence in teaching Latinx/e students;
- Effective service (e.g., advising, mentoring) to Latinx/e students;
- Research, scholarship, and/or creative artistic expression focused on the Latinx/e community;
- Knowledge (professional background and/or training experiences) that advances our institutional commitment to Latinx/e student success.
EXPERIENCE
- Record of, or potential for, research and peer review publications in AI, MIS, Business Analytics, or related fields.
- Ability to teach AI-centric courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including Generative AI, AI in Business Strategy, Machine Learning, and AI-driven Decision-Making.
- Familiarity with AI applications in industry and real-world scenarios.
- Ability to develop and teach new courses in emerging areas of AI.
- A record of and commitment to working with a diverse student population and contributing to inclusive excellence in education.
- Ability and willingness to develop and enhance curriculum and/or course design and assessment.
- A record of, or potential for, developing relationships with the business community and engaging in projects and/or consulting.
- Interest in and/or experience with teaching online courses.
- Ability to develop graduate and undergraduate research projects/lead graduate and undergraduate teams.
- A record of, or potential for, effective collaboration with peers within the college and across the university.
- Ability to teach large classes.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage in interdisciplinary research and teaching.
