    Job Summary:

    The Student Services Personnel will handle some planning and coordination of student placement activities for the College of Education (COE).

    Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for the College of Education, the Student Services Personnel will collaborate with department chairs, program coordinators, and other college staff to coordinate and implement moderately complex activities related to students' fieldwork observations, student teaching, and clinical placements.

    Duties and responsibilities
    • Serve as coordinator for student placements in the Office of Student Services, College of Education (COE) by creating and maintaining professional working relationships with College Department Chairs, Program Coordinators, and other program coordinators in the college.
    • Collaborate with school districts that have a Memorandum of Understanding with the College to support fieldwork and clinical practice opportunities.
    • Create and maintain a placement calendar while coordinating day-to-day student placement activities in collaboration with the College Associate Dean, Special Assistant to the Dean and Director of Assessment, department chairs, program coordinators, and staff in the Office of Student Services.
    • Utilize working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities to serve as a liaison between district and community partners in relation to fieldwork and supervision placements. Coordinate COE District Partners’ meetings and collaborate with district representatives to better facilitate college placement activities.
    • Collect, analyze, and evaluate student records to confirm that admitted COE credential students have met all requirements before starting fieldwork.
    • Offer comprehensive assistance and guidance through advisement sessions to COE students on fieldwork and clinical practice from the point of admission through the completion of student teaching/Clinical Practice to support their educational goals.
    • Gain a general understanding of the program's overall operations and functions to effectively respond to student inquiries and district partners via phone and email. Maintain proactive working relationships with all individuals throughout the program.
    • Evaluate and analyze routine placement issues at both the college and district levels to provide resolutions, within the area of expertise.
    • Send deadline reminders to students, follow up on testing progress, program changes, and other program-related matters that impact fieldwork and student teaching/clinical practice.
    • Effectively facilitate clear and concise presentations on the placement process to groups of students during the program orientation activities.
    • Run reports, document supervision observations and evaluations, and send weekly updates to the coordinator.
    • Coordinate resident teacher stipend invoices with school districts, maintain regular communication with the College AA/S regarding external invoices, and ensure year-end deadlines are met.
    • Participate as an active committee member on assigned COE committees.
    • Assist the college with special events. Events may occur during evenings or weekends.
    • Other classification related duties assigned and deemed appropriate to the operation of the COE.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Experience:

    Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
    • Education:

    Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
    • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.


    Compensation and Benefits:

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,083 - $5,804 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 per month

    The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Position Information:

    Full-time Exempt Probationary

    Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Conditions of Employment

    Background Check

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

    Drivers License Check

    Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

    Mandated Reporter

    The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
