    Are you a skilled technician passionate about keeping things running smoothly? Come be a part of the vibrant and dynamic School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences, where your expertise will make a difference every day. As our Equipment Technician, you'll play a key role in ensuring our specialized lab equipment is always in top condition. You'll provide essential maintenance, repairs, and user support to our dedicated students, faculty, and staff. Your responsibilities will include:
    • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine checks, clean, adjust, lubricate, and replace worn parts to keep our equipment in perfect working order.
    • Troubleshooting & Repair: Use your technical skills to diagnose and fix issues, following manufacturer’s instructions and industry best practices.
    • Support & Collaboration: Work closely with school personnel and IT consultants to maintain a variety of equipment, including treadmills, metabolic measurement systems, lactate analyzers, and biochemical analyzers.
    • Vendor Liaison: Act as the main point of contact between the school and external vendors, repair technicians, and facilities services.
    • Preventative Maintenance & Inventory: Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule, ensuring all equipment is regularly serviced and tracked accurately.

    Position Information
    • This is a part-time (.80 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
    • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
    • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
    • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

    Department Summary

    The School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences is one of the largest academic departments/schools at San Diego State University with over 2,200 students. The school offers B.S. degrees in Kinesiology (with emphasis areas in Pre-Physical Therapy, Fitness Specialist, and Exercise Science Generalist), and Foods and Nutrition;

    M.S. degrees in Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training, Nutritional Sciences, Food Science, and concurrent M.S. degrees in Exercise Physiology and Nutritional Sciences.

    Education and Experience

    Equivalent to two years of journey-level or skilled experience in the maintenance, repair, and operation of scientific or technical equipment in the specialty area to which assigned such as mechanical, electromechanical, electronics or in the specialized category including construction and fabrication and some precision work or requiring trade or craft skills working with a variety of unique materials.

    or

    Equivalent to two years of semi-skilled experience maintaining and repairing scientific or technical equipment or related experience in the type of equipment to which assigned as part of instructional support activities may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

    or

    Equivalent to two years of trade school or technical arts training with specialization in the type of equipment repair to which assigned, completion of an apprenticeship program, or completion of a full military specialization in the required type of equipment maintenance and repair for one year of the required experience.

    Key Qualifications
    • Experience providing high level customer service/user support.
    • Experience with maintenance and repair of equipment used in exercise and/or nutritional sciences.
    • Experience working in an academic institution, research laboratory, medical facility, or other complex manufacturing, industrial or commercial organizations.

    Licenses/Certifications Required
    • CA Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,600 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,537.60 - $6,398.40 per month.
