Inventory Control and Supply Worker I/II The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the citywide classification of Inventory Control and Supply Worker I/II. In this role, you will perform a variety of responsible duties related to the receipt, inspection, storage, inventory, transportation, issuance, and surplus/recycling of supplies and materials in either the City’s central store or Public Works Fleet Services department; to prepare items for shipment; to maintain adequate stock levels; and to perform data entry for inventory and tracking purposes. The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill any Regular, Limited Term or Temporary, Part-time vacancies for the duration of the list. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Inventory Control and Supply Worker I - This is the entry level class in the Inventory Control and Supply Worker series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. The Inventory Control and Supply Worker I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.
Inventory Control and Supply Worker II - This is the journey level class in the Inventory Control and Supply Worker series and is distinguished from the I level by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.
Examples of DutiesDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Receive, enter, and issue a variety of supplies and materials; research unmarked items for issuance to correct department.
Process incoming materials and supplies including the inspection and inventory of items; notify end user if damaged and prepare appropriate documentation.
Distribute non-stock items received including staging materials for the efficient delivery and receipt by end-users.
Move and rotate stock to ensure usage of old materials; process obsolete items including the removal from inventory.
Process over the counter requests for inventory items.
Process shipping documents for outgoing shipments.
Receive and process incoming and outgoing inter-office and USPS mail.
Assist with researching and receiving request for quotes for routine parts and services.
Participate in the City’s surplus activities; recycle scrap materials.
Prepare items for shipping and coordinate with outside freight companies.
Load, unload and deliver items to various City facilities.
Deliver parts, materials, and/or vehicles.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Inventory Control and Supply Worker I Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of modern warehouse activities including the receipt, inspection, documentation and issuance of supplies and materials.
Basic accounting and record-keeping practices.
Equipment, tools and materials used in the operation of a warehouse.
Modern office equipment and procedures including use of a variety of software applications.
Ability to:
Learn to perform warehouse activities including the receipt, inspection, and issuance of supplies and materials.
On a continuous basis, know and understand warehouse and inventory functions and observe safety rules. Intermittently review documents related to department operations; observe, identify and problem solve procedural issues.
On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time. Intermittently walk, bend, or stoop while receiving, storing and shipping materials and supplies; perform simple and power grasping; pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; use telephone, and write or use keyboard to communicate through written means; and lift or carry weight of 50 pounds or less.
Safely operate equipment including forklifts and pallet jacks.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Experience and Training
Experience:
One year of shipping and receiving warehouse experience.
AND
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree.
License and Certificate
Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment.
Inventory Control and Supply Worker II In addition to requirements for the Inventory Control and Supply Worker I:
Knowledge of:
Warehouse and inventory databases and software.
Supplies and materials commonly used by City departments.
Methods for cycle counting.
Ability to:
Independently perform warehouse activities including the receipt, inspection, and issuance of supplies and materials.
Implement inventory control methods.
Accurately record and reconcile data and run reports.
Troubleshoot, research and resolve issues as they relate to the receipt, maintenance and issuance of supplies and materials.
Maintain accurate and current records of transactions.
Experience and Training
Experience:
Two years of responsible experience performing duties similar to that of an Inventory Control and Supply Worker I with the City of Roseville.
AND
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, GED, or higher level degree.
License and Certificate
Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment.

SELECTION PROCESS:
All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their application scored in a Formula Rate Examination. The applicant’s experience and education will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the Employment List. Supplemental questions will be utilized by the department hiring authority to make interview and selection determinations.
Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a City-paid fingerprint check, and depending on the position applied for, a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol screening test, credit check, license and/or education verification, psychological examination, and/or an extensive Police Department background check process.
Some positions require the clearance of a comprehensive Police Department (PD) background check within 12 months of appointment. The City may appoint candidates to positions prior to clearing the extensive Police Department background check, and in those circumstances the candidate will be advised in advance that security access in the information technology systems will be limited to non-PD related systems until PD clearance is received, and if the candidate ultimately does not clear the PD background it will result in release from City service without appeal rights, in accordance with Personnel Rules 3.04.050.
