    Summary

    Minimum Starting Salary: $15.00 per hour

    The City of Waco Seeks
    Are you passionate about enhancing community engagement through fun and rewarding recreational activities? The Doris Miller Community Center is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Recreation Aide to join our team! In this dynamic role, you will play a vital part in providing and promoting a variety of recreational activities and events for our residents. Your responsibilities will include setting up recreation sites, maintaining equipment and facilities in safe, clean conditions, and ensuring a welcoming environment for all participants.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Required:
    • High School diploma or GED
    • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License

    Position Overview
    Under close supervision, assists in the delivery of City recreation programs and events.
    Primary Hours: 2:00pm - 5:30pm weekdays with other hours as needed depending on programs.

    Essential Functions
    • Provides and promotes recreation activities and events for City residents; sets up recreation sites and facilities for events and scheduled programs; maintains equipment and facilities in clean and safe condition; duties may vary according to job assignment.
    • Organizes recreation activities, supervises program participants and enforces rules, regulations and safety precautions at indoor and outdoor facilities; maintains discipline, monitors behavior and resolves issues.
    • Develops promotional media for events and special programs; tutors’ youth and assists with schoolwork.
    • Reports and resolves complaints, requests, safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities.


    This position is not eligible for benefits.

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
