Forensic Scientist I Licenses or Certifications: - Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
- Forensic Analyst License from the Texas Forensic Science Commission as/ if required by the Code of Criminal Procedure Title 1 Chapter 38.01 for the posted discipline, within twelve (12) months of hire. - Seized Drugs: American Board of Criminalistics - Foundational Knowledge Examination Analysis ( ABC - FKE )
- Toxicology: Diplomate American Board of Forensic Toxicology Certification in; Forensic Alcohol Toxicology ( DABFT -FA) OR Forensic Toxicology ( DABFT -FT).
Forensic Scientist V Licenses or Certifications: - Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
- Forensic Analyst License from the Texas Forensic Science Commission as/ if required by the Code of Criminal Procedure Title 1 Chapter 38.01 for the posted discipline, within 12 months of hire. - Advanced discipline-specific certification may be required including:

- Firearms/Toolmarks: Gunshot Residue Evidence Examination and Identification ( GSR - AFTE ), OR Toolmark Evidence Examination and Identification (TM- AFTE ), OR ANAB Assessor Training.
- Forensic Biology/ DNA : FBI QAS OR ANAB Assessor Training.
- Latent Prints: International Association for Identification ( IAI Level II Certification) OR ANAB Assessor Training.
- Seized Drugs: American Board of Criminalistics - Drug Analysis ( ABC -DA) OR ANAB Assessor Training.

Notes to Applicants
As a key member of the Austin Forensic Science Department’s Firearms and Toolmark section, this position applies comprehensive knowledge and modern forensic principles, practices, and procedures to objectively examine, analyze, classify, and identify firearms and related evidence. Support our mission in the pursuit of truth through science and outstanding service to the community of Austin. Become part of the Austin Forensic Science Department’s Firearms team as we implement the latest 3d microscopy technology and transform the discipline.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: Performs complex comparative analysis of legally seized firearms, ammunition components, and/or weapons. Documents the unique characteristics of firearms during a forensic examination, to include thorough inspection and temporarily repairing/restoring firearms. Documents all examinations performed and results obtained. Testifies to work performed in court. Plans and executes new method development and validation studies. Provides forensic instruction to stakeholders. Promotes the quality management system.
