    Full-time position available with the Fire Department, Professional Development Division located at 3750 Eastwood Trafficway
    Salary Range: $5,794-$8,833/month
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Plans, develops and teaches Emergency Medicine courses, such as but not limited to Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic Initial Courses, Refresher and Continuing Education Programs and American Heart Association Courses.
    • Moderates, introduces, evaluates, and supervises programs presented by external and adjunct instructors.
    • Assists in course development and develops and maintains lesson plans for the topics presented.
    • Monitors course performance and established protocols.
    • Manages data entry for upkeep of records, testing material and student records.
    • Maintains student records to include attendance, examination, and evaluation scores.
    • Responsible for meticulous communication to management and to students about progress, and variations in program progress.
    • Evaluates and updates learning materials, examinations and presentations related to EMS Education.
    • Mentors and coaches students at all levels of competence and documents such.
    • Provides supervision over clinical rotation and internship rotations.
    • Participates in student selection and screening process.
    • Responsible for care and upkeep of educational equipment and facility.
    • Maintains equipment and supplies for assigned courses.
    • When teaching acts as a liaison to the department for issues that arise after-hours in the facility by reporting issues to the facility manager or security if of an urgent nature.
    • Maintains and publishes office hours for student needs.
    • Assists in accreditation activities for the program as directed by the Paramedic Program Director.
    • Assists in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives for the program
    • Performs other duties as directed by the EMS Education Program Director and Medical Director.
    • Must be familiar with KCFD policy and procedure and willing to pursue and maintain certification and education requirements for the program as directed.
    • Must meet and maintain CoAEMSP Standard III.B.1.b. Program Director Qualifications and Missouri
    • Lead Instructor Qualifications (per 19 CSR 30-40.331).



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in a variety of programs requiring professional administrative experience, including 3 years overseeing or supervising more complex administrative projects or programs; OR high school graduation and 9 years of experience in a variety of programs requiring professional administrative experience, including 3 years overseeing or supervising more complex administrative projects or programs.

    Preference given for an accredited Bachelor's degree minimum two years lecture and instructional experience at the Paramedic Instructor level, instructional design experience, standard paramedic skills to include those in the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Standards; and three years of active clinical experience with an ALS Emergency Response Ambulance.

    Preference also given to the following certificates:
    • Level 2 Instructor Certificate from National Association of EMS Educators
    • Instructor Essentials Certificates and Faculty Training from the American Heart Association
      Critical Care Certificate
    • Paramedic Certificate
    • Patient Care Skills Instructor Certificate
    • Simulation Instructor Certificate
    • Ambulance Documentation Specialist Certificate
    • Community Paramedic Certificate
    • Certificates/Licenses/Special Requirements
    • Missouri Paramedic license
    • BLS for Healthcare Providers Instructor
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor
    • Nationally-certified EMS Educator (NCEE)
    • Critical Care Specialty Certification (CCEMTP, FP-C, CCP-C, CTRN, CFRN)
    • National certification at the level of Paramedic
    • ITLS or PHTLS Instructor

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
