Job SummaryMohave County Public Health-Nursing Division is currently recruiting for a Nursing Supervisor in Lake Havasu City, AZ.
Performs first line supervisory and direct nursing work involved in the provision of nursing services related to the care and management of the physically ill and in preventive health care programs offered through Mohave County Health Department in accordance with local, state and federal program regulations and policies.
REPORTS TO Work is performed independently under direction of a higher level of authority. The employee is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in accordance with established procedures and regulations.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED Directly exercises immediate to general supervision of assigned professional, paraprofessional, and clerical support staff.
Essential Job Functions- Supervises, coordinates, directs, and participates in the activities of an assigned area of the Nursing Division of the Health Department. Maintains nursing team schedule to ensure appropriate coverage to address urgent public health issues that arise in communities.
- Supervises, coordinates and performs a variety of administrative staff work such as: scheduling; maintaining records; responding to requests for information or services; performing related administrative, planning and research activities; preparing correspondence, reports, statistical information and budget materials; and assisting in the development of policies, procedures and training.
- Completes performance evaluations; may make hiring recommendations; recommends disciplinary actions; approves vacations and time off; prepares work schedules and assignments; supervises the activities of assigned personnel; monitors reports and record keeping activities filed by assigned personnel for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to policy and procedure guidelines; instructs personnel in departmental policies, procedures and techniques; and provides training.
- Determines best course of action in the completion of assignments in assigned area including setting priorities.
- Provides counseling and training of various health care programs such as Reproductive Health, growth and development of infants and children, sexually transmitted diseases, communicable diseases, and preventive health.
- Provides training for team members to perform various tests such as pregnancy, tuberculosis, AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, and communicable diseases.
- Ensures nursing team members utilize appropriate documents and maintains client charts and clinic records after each visit.
- Ensures appropriate response and follow up for all positive tests.
- Supervises and oversees the filing of forms, timeliness and accuracy of data entry, reports and charts completed by subordinates.
- Prepares reports and summaries of public health and client activity statistics and other related statistics.
- Works with Nursing Services Manager to ensure program goals, objectives, grant timelines and deliverables are achieved.
- As required, performs a variety of clerical tasks including, but not limited to: scheduling appointments; answering phones; responding to or routing inquiries; referring and directing individuals and clients to appropriate agencies.
- Create and maintain a supportive work environment with other departments and community programs, Public Health divisions, and Public Health leadership on accreditation domain while maintaining a culture of quality improvement.
- Apply basic principles, practices, techniques, teaching, and communication methods related to the age, gender, race/ethnicity, educational level, and socioeconomic status of community members.
- Communicate and act in a cultural competent and professional manner maintaining cooperative relationships with community members, co-workers, and work contacts.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS - Performs related work as required.
- Performs special assignments as requested.
- Exercise regular and predictable attendance and punctuality in accordance with Mohave County Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Minimum Qualifications- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current registration as professional nurse in the State of Arizona or licensed in a compact State.
- Two (2) years of nursing experience in occupational health, emergency room and/or public health.
- One (1) year of first line supervisory experience.
- An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENT - Must pass drug screen post offer.
- Must possess a valid driver's license for operation of motor vehicles on Arizona roads at the start of employment and maintain said license while employed in this position.
- Provide acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.

- Effectively operating a variety of office equipment to include: computer keyboard; typewriter; fax transmittal; and copiers.
- Communicating and maintaining professionalism with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
Ability to:- Set priorities, assign, schedule, train, supervise and evaluate work activities and to persuade assigned personnel effectively.
- Plan and schedule work to accommodate the needs of assigned areas and clientele to assure programs are in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and procedures.
