    The Office of the Sheriff is recruiting to fill one (1) Sheriff's Crime Analyst position within the Office of the Sheriff's Investigations Division.

    This classification is located in the Office of the Sheriff Investigations Division, reporting to a police manager. The incumbent in this class is a non-sworn employee who works closely with Patrol and Investigations personnel to accomplish the mission of the Office of the Sheriff. Sheriff's Crime Analysts are responsible for collecting and analyzing criminal intelligence data to identify crime patterns and predict future crime trends. Incumbents work as an integral part of Investigation teams to help identify suspects and leads and provide investigative support for field personnel. Assigned work involves the extensive and critical reading of incident reports, supplements, and forensic reports, using internal and external data sources to mine crime and suspect information. This position requires initiative, independent judgment, and decision-making skills.

    What you will typically be responsible for:
    • Organizing and compiling criminal intelligence data on crime trend activities
    • Conducting predictive analysis through the use of regression and other statistical methods
    • Identifying trends in criminal activity and calls for service
    • Analyzing crime patterns and series to identify possible suspects or leads
    • Gathering, analyzing, correlating, or evaluating information from a variety of resources
    • Providing investigative research using multiple databases and sources, creating link analyses, timelines, and event flow diagrams
    • Performing telephone toll analysis to identify suspects, leads, or witnesses and to verify or falsify alibi information
    • Preparing comprehensive written reports, presentations, maps, or charts based on research, collection, and analysis of intelligence data

    Minimum Qualifications

    License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of State valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.

    Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in criminal justice, science, social science, mathematics or a closely related field.

    Experience: Two (2) years full time or its equivalent experience in a law enforcement related field which included the collection, compilation and analysis of crime data

    Substitution for Experience: . Possession of a master's degree in the field of study noted above may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience

    Selection Process

    Application filing and evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.Online Skills Assessment: An online, multiple-choice assessment will be administered to all accepted candidates. This assessment will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the Sheriff's Crime Analyst classification. These may include but are not limited to: Analyzing and Interpreting Data, Critical Thinking, Mathematical Facility, Attention to Detail, Displaying Ownership and Accountability, Professional Integrity and Ethics, and written communication . (Weight 100%). This assessment will be administered remotely using a computer. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment. It is not recommended to take the assessment using a cell phone. Tentatively scheduled for: TBD (Weighted 100%)

    CONVICTION HISTORY

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
