Duties Description
Under the direction of the Park Manager 2, SG-21 at Bear Mountain State Park, the Park Supervisor 1, SG-11 will provide administrative support for the park office. In addition to administrative work, the candidate must be able to perform general maintenance as needed such as landscaping, snow removal, and traffic direction. Duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
• Prepare daily and weekly attendance and revenue reports as well as maintain expenditure records.
• Responsible for processing payroll.
• Oversee purchase requisitions.
• Issue Park permits such as bus permits and special event permits.
• Conduct various audits and ensure paperwork is properly filed.
• Prepare new employee paperwork; supervise, train, and evaluate cashiers, revenue, and office staff.
• Answer telephones and monitor park radio communications.
• Greet visitors, providing information to patrons as needed.
• Prepare correspondence for internal and external communications.
• Order and maintain office supplies.
• Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting and directing staff and working with patrons to minimize potential issues.
Minimum Qualifications
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).**
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
Either 1. three years of experience* in the construction, operation, or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus;* one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level;
Or 2. an associate's or higher level degree or 60 college semester credit hours*** AND one year of supervisory experience in the construction, operation or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus.*
*A park, recreational facility, or campus is defined as a location that offers at least three of the following elements: athletic fields, skating rink, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities or education, environmental or interpretive programming.
**For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
***Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Eligible List Qualifications:
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable on the Park Supervisor 1 open-competitive or transition eligible list.
55-b/c Qualifications:
This position is eligible for 55b/c appointment, and candidates with 55b/c eligibility are encouraged to apply. To be eligible for a 55b/c appointment, candidate must be currently enrolled in the Civil Service 55b/c program and must meet the minimum qualifications listed above. To be considered, you must provide a copy of your letter of eligibility with your response and meet the minimum qualifications listed above.

OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Knowledge of Parks programs such as HRIS (Human Resources Information System), SFS (Statewide Financial System), BETS (Budget Expenditure Tracking System), PORTS (Parks Operations and Revenue Tracking System), Aspira, Attendance, and ParkHub is preferred.

The hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 11 ($46,306) with the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($56,743) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400).
