VACANCY INFORMATION: Parks, Recreation & Marine (Animal Care Services Bureau) - Currently there is one (1) Grade level I position in the Animal Care Services Bureau. The work schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday but will occasionally work on Sundays.
Long Beach Utilities - Currently there is one (1) Grade level II position in the Public Affairs division.
SALARY INFORMATION:Grade I -$21.176 - $28.723 Hourly
Grade II -$23.371 - $31.890 Hourly
EXAMPLES OF DUTIESUnder supervision, assists, coordinates or implements public information, marketing and publicity activities/materials for community programs and services; Provides creative approaches to design, marketing programs and services; Meets deadlines established for the production of graphic design assignments; Creates design and layout of various publications; Writes and edits copy for quarterly class schedule and other publications; Produces coordinated graphic design for events and programs including flyers, posters, signs, T-shirt designs, print advertising, banners and billboards; Creates graphics or hand illustrations for special projects, maps, displays, certificates, signs, flyers, and brochures; May write and edit employee and community newsletters; May write and distribute press releases to publicize programs and services; May write scripts and deliver speeches and respond to media inquiries; May staff public information booths and make presentations to community groups; May supervise, train and instruct subordinate staff; May assist with the creation of written marketing plans and other publicity strategies and performs other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILEOne (1) year of paid, full-time experience in marketing community-oriented programs and services that require proficiency with graphic design software, such as QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Photoshop or similar.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Knowledge of media and usage requirements, including drafting, creation of graphic art materials, copywriting and art direction;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Ability to write, edit, and copy publications and promotional materials;
- Ability to prioritize tasks and duties to meet deadlines.
Willingness to work overtime, weekend and/or holiday hours.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION: Bilingual/Biliterate skills (Spanish, Khmer, or Tagalog) is desired for some positions.

A minimum rating of 70 must be attained in order to pass the examination. Certification by score bands will be considered based on analysis of exam results. The resulting eligible list will remain in effect for at least one year. Screening of applicants will be conducted on the basis of application and required supplemental application submitted. Only those candidates showing the strongest backgrounds on the basis of comparative analysis will be invited to the examination process. Based on the number of applications accepted, the selection procedure may be changed. In the event a revision is necessary, the affected persons will be notified.
In accordance with Civil Service Procedure 3.38, all eligible veterans that successfully qualify on any or all open- competitive examinations shall receive an additional credit of ten (10) points that will be added to their original passing score. Disabled veterans passing the examination shall receive a credit of fifteen (15) points that will be added to their original passing score. (A copy of the veterans DD-214, Member 4 form indicating honorable discharge must be attached to the application at the time of filing.)
