    THE POSITION: Under general direction, the incumbent will provide advanced skilled nursing, patient and staff education in a Hematology-Oncology clinic setting. The incumbent will also be responsible for committee participation, quality assurance monitoring, and statistical data information. The incumbent may provide clinical and functional supervision in the absence of the Clinical Manager when necessary.
    PAYROLL TITLE: Senior Registered Nurse - Ambulatory Care

    The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-term), Intermittent, and Extra Help vacancies for this position only. There is currently one (1) Regular vacancy.

    Senior Registered Nurse-Ambulatory Care is represented by the California Nurses' Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation. Salary placement will be determined according to the current CNA memorandum of agreement.

    Examples Of Duties

    Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Coordinates and facilitates delivery of care to patient and family in Hematology and Oncology;
    • Assesses and identifies nursing care needs of patients; and plans, implements, and evaluates interventions appropriate to those needs;
    • Develops and implements patient and family education programs;
    • Assists in establishing patient care standards and tracks the performance of nursing staff in the assigned area;
    • Participates in the development of clinic policies, procedures, and protocols for patient care;
    • Participates in nursing committee activities;
    • Maintains current knowledge in Hematology/Oncology and ability to apply same in patient care; and
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Typical Qualifications

    These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
    Requires three (3) years of full-time professional registered nursing experience, including two (2) years of full-time experience in an outpatient, Ambulatory Care, or medical clinic setting.
    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California.
    • Must have a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by first day of employment.
    • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certification and an Oncology Nurse Certification within one (1) year of hire.

    • Oncology Nurse Certification

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Comprehensive knowledge of: the principles, practices, and techniques used in Oncology and Infusion nursing care at specialty.

    Working knowledge of: patient and staff educational methods; quality assurance processes; nursing committee activities; and clinic administrative functions.

    Working ability to: provide direction and serve as a resource to others; complete required continuing education programs; work proficiently in emergency and/or stressful situations; maintain confidentiality of patient/client information; and effectively maintain a positive working relationship with the medical staff, public, patients, and hospital administration; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
