    Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental and behavioral illness. We are looking for a positive and energetic Licensed Practical Nurse who has an interest in helping children to maximize their potential. Our Licensed Practical Nurses provide direct care of patients and implement evidence-based treatment plans to increase communication, self-help, and social skills. The typical duration of admissions allows us to see the difference we make in the lives of the children in our care. As a License Practical Nurse, you will receive ongoing guidance, support and education, providing you the opportunity to flourish as a mental health practitioner. You will also coach and mentor our direct care staff as a charge nurse in a Residential Unit or Cottage.

    Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital uses the Sanctuary Model to guide our interactions with our teammates and the care we provide to our consumers in order to promote healing, safety, and nonviolence. This is accomplished by following the Foundation of Sanctuary - The Four Pillars of (1) Trauma Theory, (2) Seven Commitments, (3) S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotion, Loss, and Future), (4) Sanctuary Tool Kit.

    Functions as the charge nurse on assigned Residential Unit or Cottage that requires close supervision; on Inpatient Unit or Cottage, you will perform elementary practical nursing duties under the direction of a registered professional nurse. In the more complex nursing care areas, you will serve as an assistant to a registered professional nurse or higher level licensed practical nurse. Work is reviewed through reports, ward inspections and observations; however the employee is expected to perform the more routing duties without detailed instructions.

    Intermediate knowledge of practical nursing theory, current practices and techniques; knowledge of agency practices, rules and regulations; introductory knowledge of general principles of supervision and unit management; ability to apply practical nursing principles in the care of person with physical or mental developmental disabilities and physical disabilities, ability to understand and follow instructions; to keep records and make reports and ability to work assigned schedule which may include a variety of shifts, weekends and/or holidays, establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, patients and their family members.

    Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse and 0-3 years of experience as an LPN. Possession of a current license to practice as an LPN in the State of Missouri or in accordance with Missouri's Nurse Licensure Compact at the time of appointment.
