    Position Description
    Employees in this classification are responsible for the planning, organization, direction, and evaluation of patient care services (primarily nursing services) within an assigned specialty or sub-specialty area in one of the ambulatory clinics. Persons in this position provide supervision and direction to subordinate nursing personnel, coordinating the nursing service with the medical services in order to provide an efficient and professional environment for optimum production in health care for the patient. Employees are also responsible for providing professional nursing care within the assigned area of work. Supervisory duties include but are not limited to interviewing applicants for vacant nursing positions and making the final selection, maintaining personnel records regarding leave time, evaluations, and personnel problems, conducting employee evaluations, approving and coordinating leave time for nursing personnel, and assisting personnel in setting work-related goals. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions.

    Major/Essential Functions
    This Position is Open to Current TTUHSC Employees Only.
    • Supervises and mentors the nurse home visitors in the Nurse-Family Partnership program, a research-based, extended case management and client mentoring program for first-time pregnant, low-income women.
    • The NFP Nurse Supervisor, using principles of supervision, reflective practice, and staff development, will provide primary support and appropriate oversight to the Nurse Home Visitors to build and model a strengths-based, client-centered culture in a nationally recognized program that has been demonstrated to improve critical outcomes for at-risk women and their children significantly.
    • Actively participates in recruiting and hiring Nurse Home Visitors (NHV) and administrative data support staff. Oversight of program staff orientation and NFP education sessions as outlined in the NFP program pre-training materials.
    • Strategy development and assessment of educational activities to address ongoing and skill needs of home visitors and support staff. Client caseload assignment and evaluation. Management of nurse home visitor professional and education development to include weekly one-on-one feedback and issue resolution meetings. Mentor the NHV by providing ongoing evaluation of NFP home visits and administrative data support staff.
    • Actively participates in mentoring the NFP budget to ensure appropriate use of program funds. Works with the program director and the program manager to ensure compliance with fidelity to NFP model and contract agreements. Actively participates in monitoring the NFP contract. Is proactive in staying current in local, state, and national issues that may affect the sustainability of the program.
    • Actively participates in all NFP community coalition/Advisory board meetings, develops and maintains community referral sources for the NFP Program, develops and implements external and internal systems to ensure timely receipt and disposition of referrals to and from the NFP, and actively participates in the development of strategies for using local print and electronic media to "showcase" the program.
    • Collaborates with the program director and other administrative staff in the development and ongoing oversight of the NFP infrastructure, including the development of policies and procedures to guide program implementation. Manages the organizational structure and systems adequately to allow home visitors to stay focused on clients.
    • Oversees program quality improvement and evaluation activities in collaboration with the NFP director and other administrative staff. Provides ongoing oversight of program data reporting activities to include timely and accurate data entry, reporting schedules, implementation of quality improvement strategies, dissemination of outcomes evaluation with staff, surveillance of client-related incidences and evaluation of outcomes and interventions.
    • Creates and maintains a strength-based client-centered culture based on trust, support, and growth with team members and community partners. Provides guidance and supervision of NFP NHVs based on principles and concepts of the parallel process and reflective practices, including modeling therapeutic relationships, change theory, self-efficacy, client-centered, and strength-focused approaches.
    • Develops and implements regular reflective practice supervision activities within the program and conducts field home visits, both with frequency as recommended by NFP. Ensures rewards and incentives are aligned with the goals of the program. Effectively assists home visitors in analyzing complex problems and case situations.


    Required Qualifications
    Education: Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
    License/Certification: Current RN license in the State of Texas or ability to obtain a Texas license.
    Experience: At least four years in nursing, with at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity.
