  • Job Description

    Description

    Under moderate supervision, receives, stores, monitors, orders, issues, and maintains computerized inventory records of vehicle parts and other materials.

    Examples of Duties

    • Operates a computer to identify, retrieve, enter, update and/or verify stock availability and status; ensures that items are charged to the appropriate cost center
    • Issues parts and other materials upon request
    • Receives materials from outside vendors
    • Checks orders received from various Metro departments, divisions, and vendors and ensures placement in proper storage bin
    • Conducts storeroom inventory, including performing cycle counting to maintain adequate supply levels; orders supplies
    • Operates forklift to move, load, and unload materials
    • Responds to inquiries from various Metro locations regarding status of requested materials and parts
    • Modifies crates, pallets, or boxes to protect and safeguard goods during storage or distribution
    • Cleans and maintains work area
    • Picks up and delivers supplies to various locations when necessary using a Metro vehicle
    • Adjusts pallet racking, shelving, or cabinets to maximize storage capacity
    • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

    Minimum Qualifications

    A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

    • None Required

    Experience
    • One year of relevant experience performing stock, warehouse, or inventory control work in a computerized/automated environment, including operation of a forklift ; experience in an automotive, mechanical parts counter support, or manufacturing environment is preferred; successful completion of Metro's "Promoting to Stock Clerk Trainee" training program may be substituted for experience

    Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
    • Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
    • Valid California Class C Driver License
    • Possession of a forklift certification/license or the ability to obtain a forklift certification/license within the first two weeks assigned to the Stock Clerk classification


    Essential Knowledge

    • Basic warehousing and inventory control practices
    • Shipping and receiving practices and procedures
    • Safety procedures
    • Basic arithmetic
    • Vehicle operations and safety
    • Applicable business software applications
    • Computerized inventory control systems
    • Material handling equipment operation such as forklifts, hand trucks, etc.
    • Nomenclature of parts, tools, and equipment used in a bus, rail, or automotive repair shop
    • Trade manuals and parts catalogs covering bus, rail, and/or automotive equipment

    Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)
    • Safely operating material handling equipment, weight scales, banding machines, and counting scales
    • Communicating effectively with others
    • Interacting professionally with various levels of internal and external clients and representatives
    • Operating computers and office equipment
    • Accurately enter and retrieve data

    Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)
    • Stock, transport, and distribute parts and materials
    • Practice Metro's inventory control procedures
    • Maintain inventory records and logs
    • Safely operate supply trucks, forklifts, and Metro vehicles
    • Follow oral and written instructions
    • Independently lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; lift and move objects weighing over 51 pounds with assistance
    • Read, write, speak, and understand English

    • Handling by seizing, holding, grasping, or turning hands, but without finger dexterity
    • Reaching by extending hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction
    • Using equipment requiring high level of hand and finger dexterity
    • Safely use sharp objects and tools
    • Operating foot pedals
    • Communicating through speech in the English language required
