Health Information Management Assistant I. This is the entry-level of the Health Information Management series who performs a variety of entry level duties pertaining to the processing of electronic and paper based inpatient, outpatient, and behavioral health medical records. Duties include collecting, processing, and verifying patient information; auditing records for accuracy, completeness and compliance with state and federal regulatory and accreditation requirements, preparing, scanning and indexing documents with an on-line archiving system.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
Minimum RequirementsExperience: Six (6) months, within the last five (5) years, of full-time equivalent experience primarily performing any of the following: - Auditing and processing electronic medical records in an acute care hospital or clinical setting
- Medical clerical experience, such as processing disability requests, birth and death certificate documents, and/or release of information processing
- Front office or secretarial experience in a primary or specialty clinic or private physician’s office
- Indexing, prepping, scanning documents into the electronic health record (EHR) system
Desired QualificationsIdeal candidates are detail oriented, possess exceptional proofreading skills, and are proficient in processing electronic medical records in an acute care hospital or clinical setting. In addition, the highly desired candidate is familiar with medical terminology, has a working knowledge of chart auditing principles and patient privacy, confidentiality, and security requirements. Related experience with electronic health records (EHR) is highly desirable.
