The purpose of the
Temporary - Public Event Worker position is to set up and take down event spaces for rentals at Zilker Botanical Garden and Mayfield Cottage and Gardens. Duties will include assisting with transporting rental guests to and from event venues and parking areas, monitoring events for compliance with policies and regulations, handling guest concerns, and providing coverage of weekend bathroom custodial duties. Occasional coverage of rental e-mails and scheduling may be required.

- Driving Requirement: This position requires a Valid Texas “Class C” Operators License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

- Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to thirty-five (35) pounds. Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond, and work with participant’s needs and safety issues.

Pay Range
$21.63 per hour.
Hours
Work Location/Schedule: - Saturdays, Sundays, and occasional weekdays. Maximum of 20 hours per week.
- Work schedule and location is subject to change based on department needs and programs.
- May be required to work during city emergencies such as extreme weather events.

Preferred Experience: - Experience in event or banquet set up in the service, retail, or hotel & tourism industries.
- Experience with point of sale ( POS ) systems and/or Microsoft Outlook.

Preferred Skills: - Ability to fluently communicate (reading, writing, speaking) in English and Spanish.
- Ability to drive vehicles with a manual transmission.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Reads and interprets stage and seating diagrams. Assembles and disassembles portable stages, bleachers and seating arrangements. Loads/unloads and stacks materials by hand. Drives vehicles and equipment as necessary. Operates various equipment such as forklifts, buffers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, extractors to clean carpet, etc. Checks, cleans and services equipment. Sweeps/mops and dusts floors. Scrubs/disinfects sinks, countertops, lavatory facilities, etc. Pick-ups and disposes of waste and other materials. Performs light security services. Answers visitor/client questions and provide assistance. Accepts cash and balances cash drawer.
