    The Health Services Department has an opening for (1) Medical Records Technician position in the Health Services/HIM Division.

    Position Assignment/Duties:
    A Medial Records Technician duties include but not limited to Reviewing medical records for documentation on billing issues (patient accounting) Assisting physicians in the completion of disability, Worker’s Compensation, and all other forms. Assisting physicians with correspondence for subpoena and legal matters. Answering questions from health care providers and the public requesting information related to the processing of medical record information, patient access and privacy and security of protected health information. Processing subpoenas, attorney requests, court orders, search warrants and other legally required requests and appeals relative to the release of medical and billing information. Assists in the training of new employees and may provide input to supervisor on clerical staff performance evaluations. May assist the liaison between the Health Services Department and the State Health Department with the registration of vital statistics documents. May assist physicians with completion of death certificates including, contact with mortuaries, Coroner’s Office, Social Service, and patient families. Enters, scans, indexes and screens data in various computer systems. Some positions may be required to drive to transport patient medical records between job sites and provide on-site coverage to health centers and the hospital. Provides and promotes excellent customer service for all internal and external customers.

    Minimum Qualifications

    License: A valid California Driver's License may be required for some positions. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.

    Experience: One (1) year of full-time or its equivalent experience performing clerical duties in a medical records work unit.

    Substitution: Graduation from an educational program for Medical Record Technicians, Medical Records Administrators, Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator, approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or, successful completion of the AHIMA correspondence course for medical records personnel may be substituted for one year of the required clerical experience.

    Selection Process

    All eligible Current Contra Costa County employees that are full-time, part-time or permanent-intermittent employees in the classification specified (and level of deep class if applicable) who meet the Minimum Qualifications, have been in their current position for six (6) months or more and are not on probation status may bid as per the Local 2700 MOU.
