    The Position

    Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.

    *** THIS RECRUITMENT IS INTENDED FOR USE DURING THE STATE OF NEVADA HIRING EVENT ON TUESDAY 3/4 AND WEDNESDAY 3/5. PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO WERE PRESENT AT THE EVENT, HOWEVER ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED AND CONSIDERED. *** Under immediate supervision, incumbents function in a trainee capacity and learn to perform duties described in the series concept.

    The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting for multiple positions for Developmental Specialist 1- Underfill in Las Vegas, Nevada. This recruitment will be used to underfill positions within the Developmental Specialist series. Advancement to the next level may occur after meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with endorsement of the appointing authority. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in the following programs: Autism Treatment Assistance Program (ATAP), Desert Regional Center (DRC), and Nevada Early Intervention Services (NEIS). This is recruitment will be used to underfill the Developmental Specialist 3 position. Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers and provides a positive working environment.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or closely related field. Special Requirements Some positions must obtain an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education issued by the Nevada Department of Education or a comparable certification issued by the Nevada Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C office within three years of appointment to this series or a comparable certification. (This license requirement applies only to those positions directly involved with children from birth to eight years of age with developmental delays.) Some positions must meet federal guidelines for Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional designation at the time of appointment. Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Some positions require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
