36258A-FR The LA County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires , including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. The Los Angeles Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Senior Carpenter vacancies related to this unprecedented natural disaster.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%. Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Senior Carpenter position. DEFINITION :Under the direction of a Carpenter Supervisor, supervises and participates in the work of a carpentry crew comprised of two to four journey-level and sub-journey-level positions.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS :Positions allocable to this class typically report to a Carpenter Supervisor or other higher-level craft supervisor, and are characterized by their responsibility to regularly provide technical supervision to a crew of two to four journey-level carpenters and participates in new construction, alteration, and repair work. Incumbents perform the more complex, difficult, or non-routine carpentry assignments requiring specialized knowledge and skill.
Essential Job Functions- Assigns, supervises, and inspects the work of a small crew of carpenters apprentices and helpers in new construction, alteration, and repair work.
- Lays out, schedules, assigns, and inspects work to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Provides instruction and training in the proper method and process necessary to carry out carpentry assignments.
- Estimates time, materials, and labor required for projects, and may requisition materials, tools, and equipment needed.
- Orders and maintains a stock of materials and supplies.
- Ensures that code requirements and safety regulations and safe work practices are observed.
- Supervises the maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Maintains records on work projects completed, and prepares written reports related to work assignments.
- Performs the work of a journey-level carpenter.
- Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites.
Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS : TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :Five years' experience in carpentry work on buildings, one year of which must have been at the journey-level*.
LICENSE:A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions**.
You MUST meet the above requirements in order to be appointed to fill any vacancies related to this recruitment. PHYSICAL CLASS:3 - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION :*Journey-level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full-range and diversity of work independently and reliably.
**Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant’s driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.
Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT :Before the end of your initial work assignment, the appointing department will evaluate your performance. Those who achieve a passing score on this evaluation will be considered for permanent appointment.
