    Full-time position available with the Health Department, Behavioral Health & Injury Prevention Division located at 2400 Troost Ave
    Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. *Occasionally works non-traditional days and hours, and schedule potentially varies week to week

    Responsibilities

    • Uses trauma informed care and de-escalation approaches to reduce negative community health outcomes.
    • Works closely with the Aim4Peace team, social service providers, medical personnel, educators, and other professionals when required.
    • Provides high-quality support, information, and referrals for youth and adolescents calling into the Violence Prevention Hotline.
    • Trains on and understands the topics of crisis intervention, conflict de-escalation, community violence, trauma-informed care, and youth mental health.
    • Plans and leads community outreach events.
    • Flexible and able to work on-call on a rotating schedule.
    • Offers violence prevention programming to schools and other community-based
      organizations.
    • Provides conflict resolution and mediation services to schools and other community-based organizations.
    • Responds to Y-Chat Line calls and makes referrals when appropriate.
    • Provides triage services to callers and keeps them engaged toward de-escalation or needed services.
    • Supports a collaborative network of service providers to utilize for referrals.
    • Works concurrently with other youth development programs, including designing and
      implementing the Youth Advisory Board.
    • Collects and maintains documentation of all contacts and outcomes of calls.
    • Attends mental health first aid, trauma-informed care, and conflict de-escalation training.
    • Distributes public education material to targeted audience.
    • Helps build relationships and partnerships between the Behavioral Health and Injury Prevention Division and local school districts.
    • Plans and executes violence prevention workshops in school settings.
    • Manages documentation and the program call log.
    • Plans and executes community events.
    • Performs related duties as required.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must pass a preemployment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
