The responsibilities of these positions include but are not limited to:
• Responsible for coordinating compliance with mandatory North American Electric
Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) Operations and Planning reliability standards. Review documentation and evidence from subject matter expert groups to assess for compliance with NERC Reliability Standards.
• Coordinate WECC audits to ensure availability and readiness of compliance
documentation.
• Track existing and upcoming legislation and regulations that may impact the Power System.
• Facilitate interaction with various internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with
existing regulations such as Renewables Portfolio Standard and Power Source
Disclosure Programs.
• Participate in discussions with external regulatory agencies including FERC, NERC, WECC, CEC, and EIA. Participate in advisory and trade group activities relevant to power system regulatory compliance.
• Communicate with internal groups to ensure timely submittal of reports to regulatory agencies.
• Coordinates with other LADWP divisions and the City Attorney’s Office on legislative and regulatory issues affecting the Power System. Collaborates with other utilities, agencies, and associations.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Candidates will be evaluated for job-related competencies which may include, but are not limited to skills, knowledge, and abilities associated with:
• Knowledge of principles and practices of electric utility generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
• Knowledge of reliability standards, regulations, and ability to analyze requirements of such standards.
• Ability to review, analyze, and prepare periodic/special reports and records regarding technical matters.
• Knowledge of sources, types, and use of data used for generation, transmission, and distribution systems analysis.
• Ability to exercise sound independent judgment to make effective decisions and work independently with minimal instruction.
• Ability to multi-task to meet deadlines and changing priorities.
• Knowledge of LADWP budget principles and processes, financial analysis, and cost control
• Knowledge of laws and regulations related to safety, equal employment opportunity, City/LADWP personnel rules and regulations, and Memoranda of Understanding as they apply to subordinate personnel.
• Ability to apply and utilize proper principles of project management; customer service; and clearly communicate orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and employee training and development.
• Ability to work effectively with co-workers, management, customers, and external agencies.
The normal work schedule will be either 5/40 or 9/80 work schedule, per the Division’s needs. Overtime work, emergency call-out, disturbance calls, and travel may be required before and after normal work hours, on scheduled days off, holidays, or on weekends, based on Division’s needs.
*A valid California Class C Driver’s license is required and must be maintained during the course of employment. Applicants must have completed probation as a Mechanical Engineering Associate II to qualify for this position. Due consideration will be given to relevant work experience, education, and attendance record. Candidates will be evaluated for the necessary work-related skills, knowledge, abilities and other qualifications (by resume, interview and other means as specified). A performance test may be administered. A background check will be conducted, including review of personnel folder.
