    Position Description
This a responsible professional position with limited administrative and supervisory duties at the unit level. Specific duties include testing, psychological evaluation and diagnostic services as well as counseling assigned patient caseload. This position functions under the supervision of a higher level licensed clinician, but the individual has full professional responsibility for higher actions and advice.

    Major/Essential Functions
    • The MHC communicates clearly and empathetically, using appropriate verbal, written, and non-verbal methods, while maintaining confidentiality and privacy. They assess communication urgency and promptly report any concerns impacting patient care or staff safety to supervisors.

During each clinical encounter, the MHC assesses the IP's risk factors for suicidality and homicidality, ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs), and social, emotional, and psychological functioning. All assessments and evaluations are documented in Pearl using the appropriate Note Builder template and communicated promptly and thoroughly to the treatment team.

    • The MHC demonstrates knowledge of the patient's rights during involuntary hearings, including the patient advocate's role in treatment refusal, and the responsibilities of non-treating mental health professionals in I NECM hearings. They are also knowledgeable about the process and procedures for Civil Commitment Hearings and adhere to CMHC policies and Lubbock County Court requirements. Documentation for each hearing is completed by COB, with any late entries requiring prior approval from the direct supervisor.
    • The MHC completes work in compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and audit guidelines, including ACA, ORA, and TDCJ standards. They attend required training within expected time frames and maintain up-to-date records verifying compliance with training requirements from TTUHSC, TDCJ, ACA, ORA, and Texas BHEC.
    • The MHC responds positively and professionally to supervision, handling constructive criticism with respect. They keep the supervisor informed of both clinical and non-clinical issues.
    • The MHC attends training sessions and reads relevant books to enhance their knowledge and skills, applying the content to practice. They use professional development funds for clinical license renewal.
    • The MHC demonstrates proficiency in using the Electronic Medical Record, Microsoft Office, TDCJ Micro Focus, and other programs/operations utilized by CMHC and TTUHSC for documentation and communication.
    • The MHC participates in committees to improve programs at the John T. Montford Unit, contributes to staff and safety initiatives, and supervises students for licensure. They may present at professional conferences, serve as a TDCJ Certified Spanish interpreter if certified, and complete tasks promptly.
