DUTIES
ANNUAL SALARY
$57,649 to $84,250; $60,990 to $89,199; and $64,164 to $93,813

Candidates from the eligible list are normally appointed to vacancies in the lower pay grade positions.Annual salary is at the start of the pay range. The current salary range is subject to change. Please confirm the starting salary with the hiring department before accepting a job offer.
Assists the Art Center Director and/or supervising Director in designing, implementing, and coordinating arts programs that are responsive to, and representative of, community input and staff expertise at arts centers, theaters, galleries, and historic sites managed by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Provides administrative/operations support to the supervising Director. May be required to teach classes in the visual, performing, and/or media/communications arts, or classes in other arts disciplines, to children, youth, and adults.
REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in the arts, performing arts, art history, art education, or a related field; and
Two years of full-time paid experience (or total of 4,160 compensated hours) designing, implementing, or coordinating an arts program.
Additional experience of the type specified in Requirement #2 may be substituted on a year-for-year basis (2,080 compensated hours per year) for the required education lacking.

However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.The positions of Arts Education Coordinator in the Department of Cultural Affairs require a valid Class C driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) at the time of filing. Applicants will be disqualified and not be eligible for appointment to these positions if their DMV record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation such as DUI.Please note that qualifying education must be from a college or university accredited by a City of Los Angeles recognized agency. The examination will consist entirely of an evaluation of professional and personal qualifications by interview. In the interview, the following competencies may be evaluated: Self-Management; Initiative; Teamwork; Flexibility; Oral Communication; Written Communication; Community Relations; Job Knowledge, including knowledge of: various art forms and their history, techniques, and standards; principles, methods, techniques and standards used in visual and performing arts education; historical and contemporary visual and performing art forms and current art trends in community-based and professional art platforms; materials, tools, and equipment necessary for working with diverse art media specific to art practices and exhibitions; Technology Application, including knowledge of: various computer programs and software, such as Microsoft Office, Google Applications, and/or basic graphic design programs, and their functions; social media practices and platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Constant Contact, and/or Eventbrite; and other necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Prior to the interview, candidates will be required to prepare some written material related to the duties and responsibilities of an Arts Education Coordinator. This essay material will not be separately scored, but will be presented to the interview board for review and consideration, which may include discussion, in the overall evaluation of the candidate. Those who do not complete the advisory essay will not be invited to the interview and will be considered to have failed the entire examination. To be considered complete, the advisory essay must include a substantive response for each question or problem included in the advisory essay for which a candidate is required to provide an answer. Please note that candidates must complete the advisory essay and meet the minimum qualifications as stated on this bulletin in order to be considered further in the examination process.
The advisory essay will be administered on-line . Candidates invited to participate in the examination will receive an e-mail from the City of Los Angeles outlining the specific steps needed to complete the on-line advisory essay. Candidates will be required to complete the on-line advisory essay between MONDAY, MAY 5, 2025 and MONDAY, MAY 12, 2025 . Candidates who fail to complete the advisory essay as instructed may be disqualified.
Candidates will be notified later by e-mail of the date, time, and location of the interview, which may be held in Los Angeles or on-line. It is anticipated that the interviews will begin during the period of MONDAY, JUNE 2, 2025 to FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 2025 .
