    Position Overview

    *The 14-day in-house notice is incorporated in this job announcement

    The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Pretreatment Inspector in the Department of Utility Services. The department will consider and may hire a candidate who is qualified at any level in the series. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status.**

    The Pretreatment Inspector I and II job series consists of two (2) levels of Inspectors. Their purpose is to perform work inspecting commercial and industrial entities with potential wastewater discharges to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local discharge regulations, collect and preserve wastewater samples for laboratory analysis, work closely with internal and external customers through oral and written communication; and performs related duties as required.

    Pretreatment Inspector I:
    This is the entry-level classification in the series. A Pretreatment Inspector I is hired to independently perform basic tasks and assist the Pretreatment Inspector II or Supervisor with advanced tasks.

    Pretreatment Inspector II:
    This is the advanced-level classification in the series. A Pretreatment Inspector II is expected to independently perform advanced tasks.

    Positions in this series are flexibly staffed and Pretreatment Inspector II positions may be filled by advancement from Pretreatment Inspector I once all the requirements have been met and verified.

    Pretreatment Inspector I (Hourly Pay Range: $32.51 - $37.22)
    Pretreatment Inspector II (Hourly Pay Range: $38.56 - $44.16)

    ** NOTE TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES:
    • Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full-time non-probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.
    • Probationary full-time, part-time, temporary employees, and external candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on separate list(s), which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full-time non-probationary employees, the separate list(s) may be utilized.

    Minimum Qualifications

    PRETREATMENT INSPECTOR I
    • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
    • One (1) year of experience in the field of wastewater collection or treatment, or one (1) year of experience performing sample collection or chemical analysis related to wastewater treatment
    • Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483
    • Must possess a Nevada Industrial Waste Inspector in Training (IWITT) Certification within twelve (12) months from the time of appointment
    • Must possess a Nevada Industrial Waste Inspector Grade I Certification within eighteen (18) months from the time of appointment
    • All required licenses and certifications must be obtained and maintained at the incumbents’ expense
    • Desirable: Completion of twelve (12) credit hours for courses in chemistry, biology, environmental science, water/wastewater technology, or engineering
    • Desirable: Possession of Nevada Industrial Waste Inspector Grade I certificate at time of application
    • Note: Employees will be expected to complete assigned training courses through the City of Henderson's learning management system
    • All required licenses and certifications, as mandated by state and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained, and maintained at the incumbents’ expense and be in good standing as a condition of continued employment
    • Note: Non-competitive promotion may be considered as required experience, skills, knowledge, and certifications are obtained (as determined and verified by the City)

    PRETREATMENT INSPECTOR II
    • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
    • Three (3) years of experience inspecting industrial and commercial business establishments and enforcing wastewater discharge and pretreatment regulations, may include up to one (1) year in the field of wastewater collection or treatment or one (1) year performing sample collection or chemical analysis related to wastewater treatment
    • Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483
    • Must possess a Nevada Industrial Waste Inspector Grade II Certification at time of appointment*
    • Desirable: Associate Degree with major coursework in chemistry, biology, environmental science, water/wastewater technology, or engineering
    • Note: Employees will be expected to complete assigned training courses through the City of Henderson's learning management system
    • All required licenses and certifications, as mandated by state and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained, and maintained at the incumbents’ expense and be in good standing as a condition of continued employment
    • Note: Non-competitive promotion may be considered as required experience, skills, knowledge, and certifications are obtained (as determined and verified by the City)
    *NOTE: For this recruitment ONLY, candidates for Pretreatment Inspector II that currently do not possess their Nevada Industrial Waste Inspector Grade II Certification, will need to meet all other minimum requirements for the II level, and must obtain this certification within 18 months of appointment. For this to apply, candidates must possess a current valid Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II (or higher) OR Water Quality Analyst II (or higher) Certification at time of application.

    The assessment and selection process for this position will take place on the dates listed above.     Selection Process

    The selection process will entail Subject Matter Experts reading and scoring your responses to supplemental questions 21-24 and your answers will be the sole determining factor for placement on the eligibility list for this classification.

    Subject Matter Experts will NOT have access to any information besides the answers to questions 21-24. This means that they will not have access to applications, resumes or any other identifying information when scoring. Candidates who have been placed on the eligibility list will be invited to participate in a selection interview.

    The selection process will begin with an employment application package screening, with the best-qualified candidates being invited to participate further in the assessment process. This process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
