Report directly to the DAI Regional Human Resources Manager with the Department of Correction's DAI Central Office.
Serve as a DAI Human Resource liaison and work effectively as a team member with other members of management and the Department's Office of Personnel.
Serve as a resource for all stakeholders regarding employee pay and benefits as well as department and state personnel policies.
Serve as the Institution's Training Office liaison and work effectively as a team member with other members of management and the Department's Training Academy.
Work closely with the Warden and other facility leadership to support day to day administration of human resources related activities. Successfully provide guidance and oversight of a comprehensive new employee on-boarding and retention process, coaching, mentoring, training and employee development, employee relations, and employee discipline. Responsible for human resource functions to include but not limited to: employee ADA requests, involvement in the employee discipline process, payroll oversight, and annual training compliance.
The following are responsibilities of this position: - Direct supervision of Institutional Personnel Clerks.
- Indirect supervision of Institutional Personnel Office Staff.
- Direct supervision of Institutional Training Coordinator.
- Indirect supervision of Institutional Training Office Staff.
- Direct supervision of a part-time Career Coach.
- Provide guidance on employee matters; and assist with complex problems in the areas of employee relations.
- Provide guidance as needed regarding employee pay and benefits as well as department and state personnel policies.
- Ensure the accuracy of payroll and timekeeping practices.
- Facilitate and evaluate employee ADA requests for accommodation.
- Provide support in facilitating referrals to the Workplace Possibilities Program and manage equipment needs/inventories, etc. as needed.
- Provide guidance and support as needed with the employee dispute resolution process.
- Participate in employee disciplinary meetings as well as review and prepare employee requests for discipline packets as needed.
- Coordinate on-boarding, retention, career coaching and mentoring for all staff.
- Oversee the facilitation of a comprehensive annual training program.
- Review annual audit findings from the Department's Training Academy to ensure training requirements are met.
Minimum Qualifications: Three or more years of experience in the direct supervision of paid employees is required.
ANDTwo or more years of professional or technical experience in human resources, or closely related field is required
(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university that includes earned credit hours in human resources, public/business administration, or related field, may substitute for up to two years of the professional/technical experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year -
a minimum of three years of supervisory experience is required)
Preferred Qualifications/Skills: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of human resource management, with a particular emphasis on recruitment and selection, training and development, succession planning, employee relations, wage and salary administration, benefits, human resource data and analytics, and employee discipline.
Exercise initiative and independence by identifying areas of improvement to enhance the established objectives and contribute to the overall goals and mission of improving lives for a safer community.

Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. The Department of Corrections is the only State agency that currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of service up to 20 years.
