OverviewWe need a motivated, innovative, and inclusive Accounting Manager to join our Operations Division at Larimer County Department of Human Services.
The Accounting Manager will oversee all financial management activities, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit support, and budget forecasting. This role also involves developing department-specific accounting practices and ensuring timely, accurate financial statements. The Accounting Manager will lead a team, manage tight deadlines, and collaborate with internal experts and other Colorado counties for fiscal analysis related to legislative bills. Additionally, the role includes participation in various state and local financial committees.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM-5 PM. This hybrid position requires at least one in-office day per week. Remote work is supported with an annual stipend for equipment and office supplies.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be doing:
- Leading the development and implementation of policies and strategic direction for the department.
- Setting financial goals and objectives, ensuring clear communication with the team.
- Overseeing budget preparation and financial performance reviews.
- Monitoring department expenditures and revenues, identifying cost-saving and reimbursement opportunities.
- Ensuring compliance with state financial reporting and general ledger practices.
- Serving as the general ledger superuser, maintaining best practices within the financial system.
- Managing timely financial reporting, including audits and compliance with local, state, and federal programs.

- Proven ability to supervise and manage professional, technical, and clerical teams, set expectations, and evaluate performance.
- Strong communicator, able to clearly convey financial goals, objectives, and results to stakeholders.
- Experience with Human Services budgets and allocation methods.
- Expertise in ensuring compliance with GAAP and GASB standards.

- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the management of governmental accounting, a directly related field, or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities in accounting, finance, or business strategy/planning required.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
- Bachelor's degree with major coursework in accounting required.
- Master's degree in a related field preferred.
- Relevant certification such as Certified Public Finance Officer or Certified Government Financial Manager preferred.
