Minimum Qualifications
Public Information Specialist:
Education and/or Equivalent Experience: - Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising or related field; Or four (4) years of experience in developing and implementing programs of public information.
Licenses and Certifications Required: Public Information Specialist Sr: Education and/or Equivalent Experience: - Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising or related field plus four (4) years of progressive experience in developing and implementing programs of public information, one (1) of which was in a team leader/coordinator capacity. Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.

Position OverviewThis position is responsible for engaging and enhancing the City of Austin’s workforce experience and disseminating news and information about citywide and departmental programs and initiatives with the 16,000+ city employees at a variety of work locations, ranging from an office environment to field staff. Developing and implementing internal communication campaign strategies and providing guidance to the networks of citywide communications professionals will also be a key responsibility. While internal communications will be the focus of this role, other duties may contribute to social media, marketing, media and public relations.

Salary: Public Information Specialist: $29.23 - $36.54
Public Information Specialist Senior: $32.23 - $40.29
